New Tool

June 22nd, 2008

It’s always fun to get new gardening gear. After reading a few of Eliot Coleman’s books and a few other blogs I decided to buy a collinear hoe. I found the one I wanted at Lee Valley Tools. I received the hoe today and tried it out. It’s great!

I love that they have environmentally friendly packaging. This wrapping is going to go around my comfrey plants as landscaping fabric!

    Why a collinear hoe?

A collinear hoe is for cutting off small seedling weeds without disturbing the soil. The bigger hoes are made to dig trenches and make hills as well as weeding. So it is a more precise tool specifically designed for weeding without bending over.

If you go to http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=2&cat=2&p=44823 they have great explanations of all the different kinds of hoes and what they are used for.
