More Volunteers Please!

August 24th, 2008

This year I have volunteer petunias growing up throughout my flowerbeds. I don’t know if they’re coming from my compost or some that I bought. I don’t really mind them though, they are beautiful. Here are a few of the different colors I have popping up.

I may try to save some seeds from them for next year. I also have squash vines and tomatoes that sprout up throughout the gardens as well as this butterfly bush that sprouted in my driveway (when it’s finished blooming I plan on moving it).

I actually don’t mind the volunteers and usually leave them where they are or occasionally I transplant them somewhere better suited for them. What kinds of volunteers sprout up in your gardens?

Amazing…I never imagined petunias would self-sow. You took some great pictures!

Thanks, I’m loving the self-seeded petunias this year. they’re sprouting up in all of my potted tomatoes, so they’re cascading beautifully down the sides of the pots with the tomatoes towering above. I’m hoping to save some seeds and try to put these in hanging baskets next year. Obviously they do well in the area!

    Hi,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. We attend a little country church in Big Prairie, Ohio, we just moved to the Holmes County area almost 11 years ago!

Which church do you attend? We know a few people in Big Prairie and they all attend the Nashville Church of Christ. Holmes Co is such a beautiful area. We always enjoy our trips down there to the family cabin.
