We tried for awhile, but sorting and hauling it into town 25 miles was too much. However, I do compost everything I can, and when we finally get recycling out here, I'm on it. Like you. we've recycled for many years - metal, paper, cardboard, plastic, clothes (to charity shops), glass and of course garden and vegetable waste - we do our own composting as well. We don't get all our recyclables collected, we still have to make periodic trips to the local recycling centre - far better than adding to the landfill burden. I'm not much of a gardener, though I'd like to be. I suppose I just need to take more time. As a result I don't compost in my garden, however our city has a compost pickup. What has been upping our garbage count the last few months is the birth of my son. We're adding way to many diapers to landfill. We've begun to transition over to cloth diapers which has helped.
