I Love the Winter Weather

December 7th, 2008

When it comes to winter, I’m a HUGE fan of the snow. I like lots and lots of snow, big piles of it everywhere. Mr Chiots and I have often said that we need to move an hour north into the snow belt of Ohio so we can get our fill of snow during the winter. We usually have a decent amount of snow here in our area, but when it comes to snow, I think more is better!

We’ve been pretty lucky this winter as far as snow fall goes. For the past 3 weeks the snow has covered the grass most days. On Thursday night we even got a nice dusting to make all my Christmas decorations look even more seasonal!

So what kind of weather do you fancy during the holidays? Snow, sun, cold, warm?

Check out the new poll about what kind of weather you like during the holidays.

I love lots of snow, it really feels like the holidays then. We had quite a bit last year in Colorado by this time but so far nothing has stuck in Philly.

Snow is far far more than I can hope for. I haven’t seen rain in 6 months, so I’m just hoping for that!

    SNOW!!!!!
Unfortunately, we’re high desert, so while we usually have snow within 15 minute’s drive, we only have it here 4 or 5 times a year.

    SNOW SNOW SNOW!!!

About

This is a journal of my small organic gardens in north eastern Ohio, zone 5(a). Our gardens are named after our dog Lucy, a big brown/black lab mix from the local pound. We started calling her “Chiots” when she was a puppy and the name stuck. She thinks the yard and gardens belong to her, she chases away all squirrels & rabbits and the UPS man.

Our yard is very small and fairly shady, we are surrounded by woods all 3 sides. The soil is made up of rocks and clay, not the best, but I’ve spent 7 years adding chicken manure & compost. When we first moved in 8 years ago, the gardens were in terrible shape from years of neglect and too many chemical pesticides and fertilizers. It has taken years to reset the balance of nature and we're finally starting to see the fruit of our efforts. We unearth worms when we dig and we are seeing more and more birds and beneficial insects in the gardens. The soil is also starting to improve after years and years of hard work amending it with all kinds of organic compost.
