Piling Up
The snow’s piling up around here. For the past couple weeks we’ve been getting snow every couple days. We get an inch here and an inch there. We’ve probably had 18 inches total, but it’s packed down a bit.
It keeps piling higher and higher on my bird bath planter. With the forecasted temperature going up to 40 it’s going to start melting away today. That’s too bad.
We’re getting to the end of our snow season here in Ohio. The month of February is usually a dreary month, cold dark days with no snow; kind of depressing. I guess the seed starting and planning my summer garden should keep my spirits up.
Snuggling with cats is another way to brighten your day. Lucy is figuring this out while she’s on bed rest. Samson loves to come in and snuggle with her to cheer her up.
What do you do during these deary cold winter months to keep your spirits up?
Like you, I look at my seedlings for some hope in the cold snow of winter. Another thing that helps me is to check the sky/sun information each day. That is, I track how the sun is out for a bit longer each day, what those times are, how the earth’s tilt is changing as the days pass, etc. Today will be 1 minute, 58 seconds longer than yesterday! That also gives me hope, watching the times get longer and longer.

Well, I sure don’t snuggle with the demon cat. But yay for seeds! To answer your question about where we get our seeds . . . I don’t know.
I know, how helpful am I? But honestly, it varies. Some we get from John Scheepers Kitchen Garden seeds, some we get from Totally Tomatoes, some I don’t even know where they come from. The MiL has been ordering seeds for decades, and I just started gardening a couple of years ago, so she pretty much does the ordering and I just tell her what I want. Then I do all the work in the vegetable garden and she does all the flower gardening. An equal division of labor. I think.

I read bee and garden porn to stay cheery…my wife calls my addiction to reading beesource.com “bee porn”. We seem to get into projects around the house…painting or redoing whatever regardless of whether it needs it…just something to occupy ourselves!

Oh my goodness! That pic of Lucy and the cat is too cute! I wish our cat would cuddle with the dogs. She much prefers to growl and swat.

Glad to see your seedlings are up! I haven’t planted anything yet…
Well, a winter in California can’t hold a candle to a winter in Ohio, but what I do to beat the dreary days is embrace them. Only in the winter does it rain, and as a result, this is the only time it’s really green. When I lived where it was very, very cold (Minnesota), I would go outside often…except when the thermometer dipped below -10!
