Quote of the Day: W.E. Johns
One of the most delightful things about a garden is the anticipation it provides.
~W.E. Johns, The Passing Show
As my seed packets pile up and my seedlings grow taller, I’m anticipating great bounty for my table and pantry from my gardens.
What are you anticipating most about coming gardening season?

I’m looking forward to getting up every morning and going out to explore what has changed since the days before, looking for new life and growth, and getting to know the plants in my garden all over again (or for the first time!). That was one of the happiest times of the day for me last summer/fall, just seeing how they were all doing, what needed to be picked, watered, tended…. I think its the caring for it that I am looking forward to most – and of course, eating from it, knowing how I saw the project of growing a nourishing veg through from start to middle to finish.

Since we just secured a loan and are waiting to hear from the realtor, I’m looking forward to having several acres to work on, rather than just my tiny yard. But even if the acreage falls through I’m still looking forward to watching things grow in the garden I share with a friend.
But mostly- I look forward to those fresh juicy tomatoes that taste like heaven!

Well the comment about it would have been too big,so I put it on my blog.
Daphne’s last blog post.. Anticipation

I am anticipating dirt. Just to see it without having to dig out 4′ of snow. Even frozen dirt will do, I’ll make it work…dark brown dirt, no more white.
I really like how you do your pictures.

I’m not sure I can pick just one thing.
Being outside, spending time with SJ, learning new things, seeing wildlife, seeing things grow, meeting new friends, sharing, photographing, and trying new things. They’re all wonderful, and I can’t wait!

What a beautiful quote! Our garden is so much about anticipation and hope :)
It’s the last day of summer here in Aus. We live in a cooler area so already the early morning air smells of autumn and the anticipation of the days to come is humming… I’m looking forward to the daytime temps being a little kinder to my seedlings, to leeks, parsnips and broccoli. Frosty evenings with warm soups and casseroles.

A lack of snow, ground that’s no longer frozen, warm breezes blowing through the house, multi-colored flowers, and red strawberries to name a few!

Mangochild – I too love to walk around the gardens in the morning, it’s very exciting when you’re growing food because it seems one day can make a big difference!
Judy – how exciting. I would love to have a few acres out in the country, until then I’m making the most of my small lot.
Daphne – I checked out your blog post, great things!
Mike – Dirt, I was noticing the dirt where the snow was melted off. I can’t wait till it’s thawed so I can get to work.
Jennifer – sounds like you’re going to be busy this summer!
Em – Funny how you’re going into fall as we’re going into spring.
Pampered Mom – breezes blowing through the house, I can’t wait for this either!

I think my most anticipated garden event this season would be watching the Muscari I naturalized in the front lawn bloom for the first time.

I’ve always wanted to get some Muscari Dan. I should order some, they’d be lovely in the gardens. Have you had any trouble with chipmunks or anything? They seem to eat just about every bulb I plant. One year I planted 200 crocus bulbs and they ate all but 1. I only have 1 bloom after digging 200 holes. GRRRRRR.
