Spring Flowers

April 18th, 2009

The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size.

There’s just something so special about things that bloom this time of year. I think it’s because they’re the first colorful things after the long white winters here in Ohio. If I had to pick a favorite spring flower I think it would be the tulip, there’s just something about them that’s so cheery. I really love that they come in all colors, shapes and sizes!

What’s your favorite spring flower?

I love trumpet honeysuckle, even though that’s more of a late spring/summer I guess. Iris is also a fav, I’ve already seen a few this season. Plus of course purple heather – that’s hard to find here in CT though!

I love irises as well (although I like the Japanese, not the bearded ones).

Beautiful pictures! I think my favorite is the cherry blossom. In particular the Yoshino Cherry, but there are so many great flowers this time of year it seems unfair to choose just one! ;)

Cherries and Crabapples are great, you’re right. It is difficult to choose one isn’t it.

I’ll jump in here. I’ve given up on tulips, like so many other things, because of the deer but they don’t eat helleborus so I have all kinds everywhere and I love ’em. They’re the earliest color and they last a long time.

The deer eat my tulips as well, I also really like Hellebores but I don’t have any in the garden. But since the deer don’t eat yours, they’ll be a good plant for Chiot’s Run.

In my yard I know spring is really here when our plum tree starts to fill the air with its scent! I wait for that every year- after that things really start growing :). When we move, I’d love to have Hellebore- I’ve seen such great photos of them this year, everywhere!
