Playing Hooky
Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Ohio, in the low 70’s and sunny. It was the perfect day to spend all day in the garden, so what did I do?
I played hooky. Mr Chiot’s and I went motoring in our MINI. We did do something garden related though, we stopped at the local greenhouse and bought some blueberry plants to put in our front flower bed. As much as I love to garden, there are days when it’s nice to just leave the gloves at home and play hooky.
Do you ever have those days when you “should” be working in the garden but you choose to do something more fun instead?
Its funny, but being in the garden *is* my “playing hookey” – If I get away for an afternoon from work, I will surely be outside in the garden, turning up the soil, starting to transplant, or just being there. I remember Good Friday was wonderful, being able to do just that after working in the morning. I love those days, especially when they come unexpectedly….

Friday we had our first 70F day. My husband took the afternoon off of work and we went hiking. I should have been working in the garden that day. I haven’t seen a better day for it, but I didn’t.

who would’ve ever thought that i would spend a day in the garden while you were playing hooky?! well, i meant to spend a day in the garden, but all i got accomplished was planting 2 fruit trees… better than nothing i guess when i had limited time and had to chase kids the whole time!

Planting 2 fruit trees is good for an afternoon! We looked at some at the greenhouse, we may go back when it starts raining this evening and buy a few.

We don’t have those days yet, but we will this summer I’m sure. We have too much to do and are running behind from where we want to be. We get a lot done on the weekends though. We usually work 6-7 hours then take the rest of the day off, for us, that’s playing hooky enough. :)

Oh my! Saturday is usually my day to head to the Farmers’ Market in the Clubman (http://ontwoacresintown.blogspot.com/2008/07/clubman-has-arrived.html) but yesterday’s “hooky” was watching the Indians cream the Yankees.

Thanks, I’m a big fan of stone walls a well. They sure are hard work to build though!

I planted three new blueberries as well. Can’t get enough of them!
I often have things to do on the weekend that pull me away from the garden, so this time of year I rarely play hookie on purpose.
