11 Years Already?

May 30th, 2009

Mr Chiots and I aren’t big celebrators of big events, birthdays and anniversaries aren’t that big of a deal around here. I’m not sure why, we’re just too practical I think. Last year on our anniversary I got an e-mail from my mom about halfway through the day, we had both completely missed that it was our anniversary. I looked at Brian (we both work from home) and said, “Hey, today’s our anniversary”. He looked at me and said, “Oh, Happy Anniversary!”, then we went right back to work.

So today being our 11 year anniversary probably isn’t going to get much of a celebration (at least I did remember it was today). We actually have the day off, no weddings to film. I’m off to the farmer’s market this morning, and we’re running some errands this afternoon. We will celebrate our anniversary like any other day, spending time together.

How do you celebrate big events like birthdays & anniversaries?

Happy Anniversary! I also am not a big celebrator of those kinds of days, its more about having my loved ones close at birthdays/anniversaries etc. than actually *doing* something to mark the occasion. Plus, some of the best days I’ve had with them are not the “occasions” but rather just a random day that was especially good and which made me glad to be alive and have so many blessings.

My family doesn’t really believe one day means more than another. If you love someone you should treat them well all year long. There was one year that we both forgot our anniversary. We don’t usually celebrate anymore. Occasionally we decide to. Or we have a trip in the summer and jokingly call it our anniversary trip. For our 10th we actually did plan a second honeymoon trip. This year is our 25th anniversary (in a week and a half). We aren’t going anywhere or doing anything. My husband won’t even be in town for it. I jokingly told him he owed me a nice dinner to make up for it.

Our birthdays on the other hand we use as an excuse to have a party. We throw two big parties a year. We have them sometime in the vicinity of our birthdays. But they are really just an excuse and we tell people not to bring gifts. That’s another thing. I’m really not a gift person. I don’t like stuff, so I don’t get the whole gift giving routine. Everyone seems to trade stuff that they don’t need with stuff that the other person doesn’t need. And my mom and MIL travel together all over the world. They always buy us stuff on the trip. This last time I think I convinced them both that I didn’t need anything. Score. :>

Congrats on 25 years! I agree with you on the gift stuff, usually we only get something we need for gifts. We may buy each other some compost for an anniversary gift.

Happy Anniversary! We usually just celebrate with a dinner out just the two of us. Nothing more than that, as it’s a treat and enough.

    Happy Anniversary!

We don’t go crazy for anniversaries either, but we do birthdays big! When our anniversary rolls around we usually just go to a nice dinner. Sometimes simple is nice.

Congrats! You two sound much like we are. We don’t usually go big and fancy for anniversaries. Usually we just put together a nice dinner or go out to eat. I had better think about that part June 3rd is ours.

    Happy Anniversary!

We are not big celebrators. And because we love nothing more than to spend time together, we usually do that – a nice dinner, a day about town, time at the beach. Same for birthdays, we don’t do anything big, maybe a dinner with friends. Although, this year is Daniel’s 50′s birthday, and I think we are going to go to Disney World for the first time in both of our lives. We live close and we figure it’s so out of our nature that it will mark that half century properly. :) And next year, it being our 20th wedding anniversary, we are thinking of taking a trip for the occasion (which is nothing new as we love to travel), maybe to Iceland, somewhere we’ve always wanted to go.

Have a wonderful day! :) Silke

We’re hoping to go on a nice trip for our 15th anniversary. We’ve been saving for a trip to Alaska for years (since we got married).

Happy Anniversary! You do realize that that montage of photos looks like an L.L. bean photo shoot, right?

We almost forgot our anniversary last year, too. But we were traveling and a bit busy with family. Usually we remember. Most of the time, we just go out to dinner, which is definitely a special thing for us, because we hardly ever do. Birthdays though . . . on your birthday, everyone should spoil you all day long. I firmly believe that.

Congratulations! We just celebrated our 23rd. We usually use it as an excuse to go out to dinner- just the two of us with no children. That is something that we rarely get to do. Our anniversary is sandwiched between two of our childrens’ birthdays so May is a busy month for us for celebrations.

    Congratulations!

11 years together with the amount of time the two of you spend together is like 22 years! (had you ever thought of that?).

Not big on the gifts either, but I always take my birthday off and BBQ and have a beer. Been doing it for 15 or 16 years now. I celebrate with whomever is around. Its always nice.

So true, we’ve thought of that. We spent the first 9 months of our marriage working different shifts so we barely saw each other. We finally moved north and got jobs that allowed us to work from home and so for the last 10 years we’ve pretty much spent 24/7 together. It’s a good thing we get along so well!

    Happy Anniversary!

We’re very much like you. We might go out to dinner or something, but for the most part it’s more about being together every day, not about one specific day.

Happy Anniversary! We are not big shindig people, but we do insist on spending the day together. We usually make a nice dinner at home and if it is a birthday, that person gets to pick what they want. If the year being celebrated ends with a 5 or a 0 we usually plan something special. Our 10 year anniversary we went to Europe, 15th to the Grand Canyon, 20th a long weekend at a local hot springs, and 25th was a trip to the Bahamas. For our 30th I think we are going to rent a house boat on Lake Powell with two other families.

    B. and I are pretty much like you – we in fact don’t even know the actual date of our anniversary, we know the week but that’s it. No big plans, never do things like Valentine’s Day. It just almost seems silly when you spend all your time together anyway.

    Happy Happy Day!

The consensus seems to be that your loyal blog readers are not big party people. Ditto for us. Spending time together is a must, but we don’t do big celebrations and we’re not much for gifts (I did get a hammer for Mothers day one year…I was thrilled :)

    Happy anniversary!

Hubby and I celebrate 9 years this coming Wednesday. I think we’re going out to dinner, but more because it’s the last night we have a baby sitter available for a while so we’re taking advantage. We tend to be pretty mellow on the celebration end, but with two kids, it’s nice just to do things the two of us from time to time.

Well Happy Anniversary! The pics are wonderful. The best days are the ones that you can spend together :-)

Only occasionally do we do something really special for our anniversary, birthday, etc. Now we usually go all out for birthdays for the kids and Christmas, etc.
