Quote of the Day: Cree Indian Saying
“Only when the last tree has died and the last river
been poisoned and the last fish been caught
will we realize that we cannot eat money”
Cree Indian, 1909
Mr Chiots and I are big fans of camping and hiking, it’s our vacation of choice. We just watched the PBS National Park special and we really enjoyed it. I visited most of the National Parks with my family growing up but Mr Chiots hasn’t been to very many.
We’re hoping to go on a long vacation next year to add a few to his list. He’s particularly excited to visit Mt Rushmore and I can’t wait to go back to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. The place we want to visit most is Alaska!
We’re thankful for all of those that came before us that saw it fit to set aside the parks and continue to save them for all of us to enjoy. We want to see as many as we can and enjoy the beauty of this great country we live in!
Have you ever visited any National Parks? If so which is your favorite?
**All of these photos were taken at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park during 2 different trips (one with our very best friends, hence 4 sets of hiking boots).

I love the national parks. I haven’t seen nearly enough of them. I remember when I was a kid going to Yellowstone in the winter. They have to bring you in on huge – hmm I want to say snowmobiles, but that isn’t quite right. The nice thing about visiting them in the winter is that very few people are there since they all have to be trucked in.
A couple of years ago we went to Yosemite. That was so beautiful. We didn’t camp though. We stayed in the lodges and my folks trailer. When we went to the Grand Canyon we rafted it so of course we camped there. I’ve been down that stretch of the river now three times. I just love it.

Yosemite is a must—-my advantage living in Southern CA is being able to visit and hike a ton there. Half Dome is a great hike. I’ve also done about 1/3 of the John Muir Trail with my boy, so that was fun, too.
Bryce and Zion are also amazing. The Narrows is epic, as is Angels Landing.
Yellowstone and Glacier are also amazing places. So much to see in those HUGE parks—I’ve only been to those a couple of times, so I’m not as familiar with the trails there.
I haven’t been East of those, though, so there is still a lot to see. I’d love to see Mt. Rushmore and the Smoky Mts.

The Smokies are lovely. They’re only about 7 hrs away, so we’ve been there several times. Mammoth Cave is also very interesting.

I have been to quite a few parks. Colorado has some great parks; Rocky Mountain National Park and Mesa Verde National Park, especially, are so worth visiting. Mesa Verde is not to far from Bryce and Zion, which are both great parks and so is Arches.

We love camping, too, and one of our last camping trips with all three kids took us through the northeast U.S. on our way from Toronto to P.E.I. One of our stops was Acadia National Park. Our hope is to head west one day.
