Quote of the Day: Cloak of Winter
“Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter
lies a miracle.”
The view from my kitchen window, big trees (oak, maple & cherry), surrounded by various ground covers & weeds. It is lovely this time of year with a blanket of snow protecting the gardens (and hiding the weeds).
What do you see from your kitchen window?

garden, greenhouse, chicken coop & ‘Bernana’; our drunken neighbor Bernie who is never without his dog Nana. Still, it’s a tranquil view…

Beautiful framing of the snow. I have to share my daughter’s quote “the snow is like falling clouds.” -from a four year old.

That pale, almost magic, blue that signals the sun is rising behind the clouds, but its light is still is enough to ignite the snow.

My kitchen window looks out to one section of my garden and behind it is a woodlot of mixed species – douglas fir, hemlock, cedar, big leaf maple, and Alders.
No snow though, and while it is beautiful in your pics we got tons of it last year – not missing it this year.

Love that picture!
From our kitchen window, I can see our very first Christmas tree, planted and covered in snow. I have loved watching it grow over the past 6 years.

I can see my neighbors house (which is quite close to our fence and just an expanse of peeling blue paint) since our foundation is much higher then his duplex’s I cannot see the ground through that window. However if I turn 90° I can see out the siding glass door, across our deck and my raised beds sleeping for the Winter. I love that view.

A leaf covered back yard, a frost covered canal (the tide is currently out), lots of bare trees, my neighbor’s house.
I love the view out of your window. :-)

Currently I have no window to look out of. I am in my cube at work, dreaming of staying home to tend my gardens and help others do the same. Guess that means I should put in some raised beds this spring and get msyelf to the library this weekend.

Oh, a cube, I’m so sorry. I have a friend with an office in the basement of the building. I don’t know if I could handle that, I need to see the sun and green grass.

i can see our snow covered back yard and the corn field behind our house. we got about 4-5 inches yesterday. the snow is so much prettier than the unscooped dog poop in the back yard :)

You mean dog castings :) or sweet potatoes as we lovingly call them here at Chiot’s Run.

yes, definitely!

Outside my kitchen window I see our cows in the snow. Very beautiful!

I have always LOVED that quote! I see out of my window our little valley stretched out before me…giant fir trees, smoke rising from chimneys, hawks hovering, and…rain…lots of that! Have a terrific weekend Susy, Kim

Oh I wish we had snow to look at out of our kitchen window. Instead we have very gray skies and very gray trees and somewhat green grass. Pretty actually, but I do wish we had snow.

Oh so sorry, if we didn’t have a garage in the way I would be able to see my neighbors BMX track.
Perhaps you can hang that calendar over your window :)
to Susy's comment
The calendar is proudly hanging in my office. @ home I put plants in my bay window and use window blinds to block the view.

Your view is a lot like my view – with lots of birds coming to the feeder. Thanks for coming over to my blog and posting a comment. Even with the beautiful view, I can’t help but look forward to my garden.

Oh yes, the birdfeeder, you can see if from the window in the side door of the kitchen and the side window in the living room. I love watching the birds.

Reporting from my windowless office: your views are always preferred to my own. I try to get up and away from my desk often (at least 1x hour) to get a view of the sky or feel fresh air on my face. If I were at home I’d be looking out the kitchen window – there’s good and bad (I try to ignore the ATV with flat tires and red kettle bbq). Hopefully in the Spring I’ll be able to look out and see a chicken coop: now THAT would be an improvement. :>) Hee, he.

I see the snow running down along the stone wall, past the solitary elm tree, to the white birches at the bottom of our field. Our new high tunnels collapsed under the weight of the snow (we’ll need to figure out a better system of securing them next year)! Dog and fox footprints, and our ski and snowshoe trails… Beautiful.

The ugliest part of our yard and the trees behind it (we live in the woods). I generally don’t bother looking out the sink window at all. We have an open floorplan, though, and the eating area (next to/part of the kitchen) window has the backyard, hill/trees behind us and, the best part, a little waterfall that’s just off our property. Small enough that it’s dry in the summer, but in spring, fall and winter it positively gushes and looks so pretty and sounds so sweet. We sleep with our windows open as early as we can, come springtime.
