The Real Food Challenge at Not Dabbling
Over at Not Dabbling in Normal, we’re kicking off the Real Food Challenge today. If you’ve ever seen a Food, Inc. or read the The Omnivore’s Dilemma you’ve probably thought about making changes to your diet by moving away from processed foods. That’s exactly what this challenge is about. Kim from The Inadvertent Farmer saw the movie and was challenged to make some changes in her diet. She decided to make it a group effort and the Real Food Challenge was born. You can read about my goals for this challenge here.
All month long we’ll be running this challenge with posts featuring how to’s for making things at home, ideas for saving time in the kitchen, successes and failures, giveaways and so much more. If you’ve ever considered making a few changes to your diet, this is the time. Join us.
Have you ever been challenged to make changes by something you’ve read or seen?

reading your blog always inspires me to change how we eat! i’ve also recently read (again) the maker’s diet by jordan rubin and it is very inspiring. it seems like right now everyone i know has cancer. one died recently and now nick’s step sister is dying and she’s in her 40’s. i’m convinced it’s the food we eat… so it’s time to make some changes:)

I have. A while ago I started reading about how unhealthy milk actually is for your body and since then I’ve gone from 2-3 glasses a day to maybe 1. Mostly, now, I drink water or tea. I do eat cheese, but only in cooking, and yogurt but sporadically. I’m taking calcium supplements (I’m a woman in my 30’s) for now, but come spring/summer/fall I’ll be eating a lot more greens for my calcium, as well as trying to freeze some or grow in the house or a winter garden.

Honestly, I LOVE your blog!!!! I’ve been inspired and am planning to start a small garden of herbs and maybe 1 or 2 vegetables as I’m still a novice.
Also trying some of your recipes which look SOOO GOOD. Can’t wait! This food challenge has already been a great resource for a healthier life style.
Keep up the amazing work! :) and thank you.

Thanks so much for your kind words. A few years ago I was a novice as well, soon enough you’ll be an expert! All you need the courage to start and the willingness to fail. Once you have those you can really accomplish anything :)

I love it! I’m already looking forward to the goodies you’ll be posting this month! I learned how to make bread from scratch to make sure it’s healthy and reduce waste. I’m working on a perfect and healthy granola bar recipe. Let me know if you make one! :)

Susy, how many blogs do you write for? I don’t know how you so gracefully juggle everything. I can’t wait to check it out.

I write for 4 blogs at the moment. This month will be a bit of a challenge starting a new one, the Food Challenge and keeping up with things here. But I don’t like to sit around not doing something productive, so all my free time gets used blogging, reading about something I blog about, cooking or gardening. Keeps me out of trouble :)

susy – your blog is inspiring, your photos are inspiring, and your fridge is inspiring. (you write for 4?! which ones am i missing?)
eating local, organic and real food, and especially growing my own and finding ways to use what i grow all year have become a way of life for me. because of my work and travel schedule in march, realistically speaking the month will not afford me the time or situations to allow me to go deeper. my challenge will be to keep it up this month! and i will be following along for inspiration – as always!

Absolutely! You all have definitely motivated me to move away from processed foods. I can’t believe to think how much processed food I used to consume. Now, I just think it’s gross! So thanks for that. :)
