Free Copy of “Stay” by Allie Larkin
I first met Allie through her blog Allie’s Answers, which has become The Greenists. If I remember correctly I came across her blog when looking for ways to make homemade cat litter. I’ve been reading her blog every since, and if you’ve been reading here you know that she comments occasionally here as well.
This is Allie, author of ‘Stay’ (photo courtesy of Allie)
When she asked me about hosting a day in June to feature her new book Stay, I was more than happy to get involved. I’m always ready to help a friend, especially when it’s something as great as getting your book published!
I’m usually drawn to the classics, anything by John Steinbeck or Ernest Hemingway, so I don’t read a ton of new literature (besides gardening books and cookbooks). I received a copy in the book last week and finished it in two sittings, a sure sign that it’s a good book (at least for me). This book is entertaining; a story about a girl that buys a German Shepherd puppy from Slovakia on-line after a few too many drinks the night after her best girlfriend marries her best guy friend that she was in love with. Of course you can imagine the things that transpire when a huge puppy shows up at the airport a few days later. I won’t ruin the story for you, so I’ll stop with that description.
This is one of Allie’s dogs, a German Shepherd named Argo (photo courtesy of Allie)
I will be giving away a copy of the book to one lucky reader. Comment on this post and you’ll be entered in the contest to win a free copy of Stay by Allie Larkin. If you’d like to read an excerpt from the book head on over to her website and download the first chapter.
What’s your favorite book?

A great summer book about a young college student who is hire to take care of a woman with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Delicious, local food is a theme throughout.

I would love to have a copy of the book.
I remember reading a story where a guy reluctantly adopts a lost puppy. He knows nothing about dogs and feeds him leftover pizza and such. A friend gives him hell about it and brings him some puppy food and a chew toy. Later as he is playing with this cute little puppy he flashes…. why did he bring puppy chow for “large” dogs?
You can just see the concept click into place. Small puppy doesn’t mean small dog. Oh no. Cracked me up.
I always wanted a great dane or a st bernard when I was a kid. The biggest dog EVER! As an adult I realized that the bigger the dog the bigger the accident. Then later I realized that dogs are like babies that never grow up. In a bad way. I became a cat lady. I love dogs…. just prefer that they belong to other people. ;)

Sounds like a fun book! I love German Shepherds.
My current favorite is American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It blends all the mythological gods and creatures I grew up reading about into a wonderful and powerful storyline. Can’t explain it without giving too much away. ;)

I love books with animals, as long as they have a happy ending!
I cannot pick my favorite book, that would be like asking me to pick my favorite child. I’d have an easier time telling you my not favorites!

As a girl with a big dog (130 lb. of cuddly Bernese Mountain Dog) I think I might just love this book. I’m generally more of a Faulkner/Hemingway-type, but this sounds lovely. (And how handsome is Argo? It’s like he’s posing for a postcard!)

Talk about your common themes…my fave is Poisonwood Bible by Kingsolver, but I have to be in the mood for a heavy read…right now, I’m knee deep in Kathy Reichs. Thanks for the opportunity, Allie’s book sounds lovely!

I’m going to take a look at her blog, The Greenists. The book sounds like a great read. I also don’t read too many current authors—I also stick mostly to Hemingway (my favorite), Steinbeck, Salinger and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Hmmm…favorite book? I can’t say as I have *a* favorite book. Just one? That’s much too difficult. I mostly stick to non-fiction books. I can count on one hand the number of fiction books I’ve read in the past year. That isn’t to say that they’re all dry, scholarly works. Instead, the books I read tend to use real life stories to help prove their point.
“Stay” looks like an interesting book!

This sounds like a lovely novel. I am generally drawn towards non-fiction, particularly auto-biographies (I am reviewing one such book for a publisher at the moment actually) but no book is ever unwanted on my book pile.
My favorite book? Now that is a tall order for me to pick one. At the moment I am rereading (I read several books at a time) Savage Breast by Tim Ward. I love it.

Jane Eyre.
I first read it when i was about 8 or 9. Every time I re-read it, I seem to understand more and more of Jane’s character, her emotions and her life. I have been re-reading it off an on for 30 yrs now!

My dog changed my life. I was living in a tent in Idaho, and went to walk the dogs at the shelter. I fell in love with a dog who happily ignored me, brought him back to my tent and then in a panic called my boyfriend at the time…what the f did I just do? What I did was find a grounding presence in my chaotic word. I am so grateful to him for the 10 + years of lessons so far, and I hope for many more! I’ve been looking for my next good book to read, and while it’s probably too late to enter the contest, I’ll be sure to seek out her book! Thanks for the recommendation!
