Quote of the Day: William Carlos Williams

July 5th, 2010

“In summer, the song sings itself.”

~ William Carlos Williams

The other evening I was out trying to capture the beauty of a summer evening. I planted a ton of chamomile this year, so I would have a great harvest for teas. I’m disappointed that the plants are tall and leggy, and not looking too nice in the location I have them. However the other night the light was just right and they were definitely singing the song of summer. I think this captured the mood that evening beautifully.

What’s singing to you in your garden right now?

The lovage in our garden looks particularly stunning at the moment, towering above me with beautiful umbels of yellow flowers swaying in the summer breeze.

I was looking forward to chamomile this year too and mine didn’t even bother to come up. Looks like I’ll be trying again next year.

I had that trouble last year. None of my seeds germinated and I only had one volunteer that came up from the previous year. Sadly, I didn’t have much tea this past winter. I’ll be making up for it this winter though!

Suzy, my chamomile was tall and leggy this year, too. But, it’ll still make great tea, won’t it? Your pic is lovely and perfectly captured the image of a summer evening in my mind. I love to sit outside on my porch after the sun has set and just listen to all the night creatures sing. Bliss. : ) Melissa

Kinda funny. I will make great tea still. I’ve been harvesting by the bowlful. I managed to get 4 oz yesterday and I’ll probably get that much again tomorrow. Add that to all that I’ve harvested already and it looks like I’ll be able to have chamomile tea every night this coming winter – MMMMM.
