Quote of the Day: John Steinbeck
“Well, just once in a while you get that feeling–I never look at anything. I never take time to see anything. It’s going to be over, and I won’t know–even how an apple grows.” said Jim.
John Steinbeck (In Dubious Battle)
I make sure I take time to notice the little things throughout the day. I find that when I take some time to look around I notice things I’ve never seen before, like the delicacy of a Queen Anne’s Lace as the evening light hits it. I’ve never noticed the way the buds have little bird’s nests on the back, so lovely.
What little things do you like to take notice of?

You totally just blew my mind. I saw those photos and thought, “Ah, yarrow.” Then, “What? Queen Anne’s Lace? What’s that?” A few minutes of Googling and I realize that what I gathered last week for a liniment was the wrong plant. That’s a nice thing to notice!

Queen Anne’s Lace is beautiful in a cut flower arrangement and lasts a long time. I have lots and I like it. I just wish it would stop growing in the garden with the carrots. They’re identical (being wild carrot) to the garden variety of carrot, until it blooms.
Nice photos!

I like to notice insects. I’m always so surprised at how varied, beautiful and how many there are! This morning there was a beautiful caterpillar on my deck railing. Although I don’t really appreciate ALL of the insects around me (i.e., Japaneses beetles), most are so necessary and work quietly behind the scenes.

I’m with Susan, the insects always amaze me. Yesterday as I was watering pots, a little grasshopper and a preying mantis climbed to the top of the flowers as if to say hello. Right now we have hundreds of dragonflies in a rainbow of iridescent colors. They are beautiful.
