Quote of the Day: John Steinbeck
The wind swept down the rows, next morning, swaying the branches of the trees, and the windfalls dropped to the ground with soft thuds. Frost was in the wind, and between gusts the curious stillness of autumn.

I love working in the garden this time of year. There’s just something in the air, I can’t really explain it. It’s not the hurried feeling spring when there’s so much to get done in the garden. Autumn chores have a more relaxed feel since most of them aren’t time sensitive. This time of the year I simply enjoy being outdoors. I greatly appreciate this time before the cold winter drives me indoors.
What do you enjoy most about autumn? Do you have fall where you live?

I enjoy the coolness in the air after the long hot summer days. I enjoy the times on the patio sipping a hot cup of coffee while admiring the color of autumn on the trees. I enjoy watching the squirrels scurry around preparing for winter. I enjoy a hot bowl of soup on a cold rainy autumn day. I enjoy a good book snuggled up under a throw while hearing the cold autumn wind howl through the trees. I emjoy watching a good movie when the autumn darkness rolls in much earlier than summer days. Most of all I enjoy starting to thing about next year’s garden as plans dance through my mind.
Have a great autumn day.

I enjoy fall, too. Everything loses that huge sense of urgency that summer brings, the need to spend every waking moment of daylight outside pruning, harvesting, doing chores, mowing the lawn. Fall in Western Washington isn’t usually what one would call beautiful, and certainly Ms. La Nina has made her presence known with a lot of rain (joy, not!), but for some reason the deciduous trees, especially those planted in nearby cities, are breathtakingly gorgeous. I try to take mental pictures of the gold/red/pink I see on one species so I can find one someday for our yard. I just want to bottle that color up and bring it out every fall!

I love the colour of the leaves at this time of year, the mistiness in the morning and the sight of bonfire smoke in the distance. I love it when the leaves are crisp but unfortunately at the moment everything is just soggy!

I am so happy fall is here! I have a hard time working out in the heat of the summer. Somehow, in the heat of the summer, I still get things done around the garden but a lot of the other things just need to wait until it is cooler out for me to be happy working out there. I really enjoy being back in an area that has fall. Sincerely, Emily

The smell, hands down. Love the way the air changes so suddenly and on no particular morning you can just sense the change.
