Quote of the Day: Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka)
“If you want to view paradise, simply look around & view it”
~ Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka)
The flowering kale is particularly lovely after the frosty weather we’ve been having. It’s so amazing how a little cold weather makes them burst into color.
What’s particularly lovely in your area right now?

We are in a frozen landscape now. But .. my ripe raspberries look beautiful encrusted with ice.

The asters are almost gone but they’re lovely. Also, the hollies this year have an amazing crop of berries. They’re nice when green but they’ll be outrageous when red! And my Japanese giant red mustard is gorgeous purple against the bright green of the tomato plants.

I think we may have our first frost tonight. Everything looks pretty much the same, but we’ll see what it looks like tomorrow!

Both of your calendars this year are fantastic. I just looked through the quote one, very lovely. The kale in your photos has so much depth to its color. I have added kale to the list of things to add to the garden next year. Our garden is just starting to take shape for the fall and winter. The cabbage leaves are getting bigger and more full and starting to reach up and inward to prepare to grow the cabbage. I love the colors in the bed of lettuce greens and surprisingly there is still an eggplant bush growing out there. I have covered it for 5+ freezes now and I am amazed it is still growing egg plants even though most of its leaves are frost bitten. The beautiful purple globes amongst the nasty looking leaves makes me smile and shake my head. Sincerely, Emily

Too true, too true. Here in coastal Southern California, the leaves of some trees are just now starting to turn. Fall yellow at it’s finest.
