Sending Out Some Holiday Cheer

November 27th, 2010

Mr Chiots and I always send out Christmas cards to friends, family, business associates, and clients. We usually send out around 100. We’re not ones to buy cards at the store, we try to come up with an interesting idea each year for our card. I’ve been trying to come up with something creative all year long, earlier this week it finally hit me. I’ve spent some time over the past couple days playing around with lighting, focus and angles to get the perfect photos for our cards. Here are a few of the options that didn’t make the cut.

We sent the final files off to the printer last night and in a week or two I should be busy addressing our Christmas cards (which are actually 6×9 post cards this year). I’ll have the final files on the blog later so you can see what I ended up doing for our 2010 Christmas Card.

Do you send out cards each year? How many do you send out? Do you make them or buy them?

They’re fairly inexpensive to get printed professionally and if you get the regular size they’re cheaper to mail as well, not to mention it saves on envelopes as well!

What a great idea — I love the lights inside the canning jars. That would also make a beautiful display along a wall or something during a Christmas party. I had to show it to my hubby because he is always looking for something interesting to do with lights.

    Thanks for sharing

I love the shots of the lit canning jars…have you though of marketing your cards? You have a good eye for composition and people re tiring of the mass produced cards. Here I am telling you what to do when we don’t even know each other! :-)

Yes I do try and send cards but not many. Mostly close friends and family. At 76 my mom is a bit of an anomoly – she loves e-mail as much as regular post and she sends out the Lawson electronic cards for most occassions.

I’m looking in to options for this for my new blog redesign, perhaps for next Christmas I’ll have some lovely cards available for purchase.

I used to send out cards every year. Then I sort of stopped for a while (my life was not going all that well and I didn’t have a lot of joy to share) and last year I got inspired to send them again. Now things are going better for me and I feel like I want to keep sending them.

    (p.s. I LOOOOVE the jars)
