Quote of the Day: David Grayson
I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day.
We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year.
As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year. And thus I drift along into the holidays – let them overtake me unexpectedly – waking up some find morning and suddenly saying to myself: “Why, this is Christmas Day!”
Mr Chiots and I were talking about this very idea yesterday. When we woke up yesterday we were laughing that Christmas Day is just like every day for us. Since we both work from home we’re both here all day every day. We actually did take the day off and not do much work at all. We worked on our puzzle, went on a long walk, watched a Discovery show about the Ididerod, and made a delicious meal of homemade pizza. It was a wonderfully relaxing day, a perfect Christmas.
What’s your idea of the perfect Christmas day?

Hubby and I celebrated Christmas the same way. It was sheer perfection. A long walk, a Christmas movie, a very fine meal, even a nap. I told him last night I though it was the finest Christmas ever.
We actually had to lie to the neighbors and tell them we had the flu. They all feel so “sorry” for us, being alone. They don’t realize how precious that quiet time is to us.

Sounds perfect to me. My parents live 1 hour away, so we usually pack out stuff and go stay there overnight. We relax around their house and let them do most of the work. Feels like a vacation. Now…that said, next year they will retire, sell the house and take off in an RV to see the country. They might be stopping by our house for Christmas to stay and relax and let us do all the work here soon. haha
Have a great day!

The only kind I’ve ever known…lots of family, lots of laughter, lots of food…it’s how we’ve always done it. But I think if I had an opportunity to lounge around and just enjoy the day…I think I would like that a LOT. Merry Christmas…

Time with family…Ours here was perfect.. waking in leisure… eating. gathering around…reading about the original CHRISTmas together, opening a few (and not overdone) gifts – ones that are paid for… no stress on bills yet to pay, children excited about small gifts that were given with them in mind, squeals of joy, afterwards wanting to enjoy the gifts that were given, excited also about gifts they picked out to give, lunch was lunch meat and what was found in the fridge.. playing games with daughters until they tired of it…Dad playing with son until he was ready to play quietly alone, later tromping outside to play in the snow, preparing a couple dishes to take to a friends in the evening, a meal shared, with laughter and good fellowship – wonderful friends, home to tuck into warm beds, and snow quietly falling, blanketing the tracks and memories of the day…

The perfect Christmas? Well for us it’s spending time with family.I cook a simple dinner, and by that I mean, the same Christmas dinner every year. I find it much less stressful because I know exactly what to do, when to do it and how to do it. While the turkey is cooking we also work on a puzzle or play a board or card game. All the while we take turns basting the turkey. We start with French toast and berries, and then nothing until dinner…no snacks…we want to eat, eat and eat at dinner. We all peel, cut and stir, then we all wash, clean and wipe, it’s by far my favorite day of the year.

I being a nine year widower think it is humerous that every year all my friends, family, and neighbors are most concerned that I would have to spend Christmas alone. Ha, I have so many invitations I could never accept them all. Last year the weather decided to dump feet of snow on Christmas Eve. I couldn’t even get out of the driveway on Christmas Day. Never have I spent a more relaxing fun Christmas day all by myself. The view out the front window was gorgeous with the new fallen snow sparkling in the sunshine as I nibbled on a bit of toast and jam and sipped on a cup of blackberry tea. It was one of those memorable Christmases that I will remember for the rest of my life. Don’t get me wrong I like the family or friends gathering with lots of ativities as well, but I’m with you in that Christmas doesn’t have to be a one day culmination of a month of frenzy buying, baking, and event planning.
Have a great week before the new year.

Your day sounds wonderful actually. Our day was nice and relaxing. 6 of us total – friends and neighbors. The meal was basic, but good. No major cooking, more time to spend and enjoy the day, and there are still left-overs. Here comes the New Year! Emily
