Sometimes the Light is Just Right

February 12th, 2011

During the dark days of winter I’m always happy to see the sun poking through the trees in the morning, but some mornings the sun seems especially warm. There’s something so wonderful about seeing the warm yellow tones of the sun against the cold bluish cast of the snow, especially on a sub-zero morning with a fresh layer of glittery snow that fell overnight. These kinds of morning make me bundle up in Mr Chiot’s big wool hunting coat and HUGE hunting boots (quite a sight for the neighbors I’m sure) to head out to grab a few quick photos before my fingers freezer to my camera. This past Tuesday was one such morning, I wish every winter morning was this lovely, although not this cold!

What can make you get out of your comfortable little nest into the elements to experience something lovely? a thunderstorm, a hurricane?

A full moon on the snow–bright enough to take the dogs for a walk up back without flashlights.

I have always enjoyed biking and hiking which meant a dread for our long north eastern winters. Last year some friends introduced me to winter hiking. I am hooked and look forward to more snow. Nothing as beautiful and invigorating as being out on a snow covered trail. Loved your pictures of the sun! Thanks

Beautiful pictures! I would go out for a snow event like you had. Last Spring we had floods here in TN and I went out with my video camera to film some of it in our backyard.

Fog on the Coast…not here in the Valley…Coastal Fog is the best.

I love seeing sunshine in the winter months too! My parent’s and I are headed for Georgia then on to Florida, a week from Tuesday! We leave on the 22nd of February then stay somewhere then head for Georgia on the 23rd and then leave for Florida on the 24th then arrive in Florida on the 25th and pick-up my sister from the airport on the 25th in the afternoon. We pick-up my brother and his family in Georgia then we’ll head to Florida together.

These are absolutely, unbelievably gorgeous and lovely. A sunrise or sunset gets me every time. Otherwise, it doesn’t take much beyond a desire for a few quiet moments away and my husband being home so that I can grab a camera and run out the door for a bit!

The green hazing glow that everything seem to have right after a spring rain. Great for photos!
