A Big Announcement
For the past couple months I’ve been chatting with the folks over at Ethel Gloves about writing for their blog and I’m excited to finally announce it’s LIVE!
If you’ve been reading here for a while you know how much I love Ethel gloves, I’ve proclaimed my love here, here, and here. Naturally I was excited about the opportunity to blog for them. One of the main reasons I take the time to blog daily, is to encourage people to get out and garden and experience the joy that comes from connecting with nature. Gardening isn’t just bout cultivating food or flowers, it’s more about cultivating your spirit along with a deep sense of appreciation for soil, plants, and the earth.
I’ll be writing exclusive content covering a variety of topics and making videos as well for the Your Day blog at Ethel, so you’ll have to head over there to read it. Check out the introductory post and leave a comment about what topics you would like to read about or see videos covering (it can be anything from gardening to organizing you closet). After commenting make sure you check out all the lovely gloves and use the code CHIOTS at checkout to get 25% off your entire purchase (might be a good time get a few birthday gifts). I always appreciate your many wonderful, thoughtful comments here on my blog and would love to see you over there as well. Don’t worry, you’ll still find me blogging here daily.
wow that’s great Susy.
I marvel at how you do everything you do … and then there’s more.
I have to ask (and don’t worry I’m a good secret keeper) are you Superwoman?

Well, not being able to sit still helps and not having cable. I’m also pretty good at multitasking, at this very moment I’m: straining maple sap, boiling down maple sap, reading/responding to blog comments, downloading a few things for a project, printing some newsletters for work and heating up breakfast. My entire day pretty goes like that, I figure I’ll have time to sit down when I’m old.

Gosh! Where do you find the time? :)

I don’t think I’ve ever thanked you for cluing me in on Ethel Gloves so I’m doing that now: thank you very much. I love them and have a bunch, different patterns for different tasks.

Congratulations Susy, that’s so exciting!
I’ve been wanting Ethel gloves since the day I first read about them on your blog. Now I can’t resist with 25% off!! YAY!
to Kelly's comment
OOO, what pair do you think you’ll get?
to Susy's comment
I really wanted the Signature, but they are sold out. So I ordered Snakeskin for me, and two of the Rendezvous for my girls. Can’t wait to get them nice and dirty!! :o)
to Kelly's comment
Signature is my favorite as well, something classic about it. I bet your girls will love the gloves, I’ll have to get some for my nieces to help encourage their little green thumbs! You’ll have to upload some photos to the Ethel Flickr Group.
They do look even better with some dirt on them!

Susy, congrats on the new blog for Ethel Gloves. The calendar came yesterday and I am impressed with the quality and size. It fits my tired old eyes very well. Thanks again sending it to me.
I don’t mulitask well. I am a concentrate on one thing at a time. I guess it comes from working out of the left logical side of the brain. I struggle with being creative as well unless it involves power tools.
Have a great day with your new blog.

Congrats! Now you are a triple threat online! Hehe! But no, really, it’s absolutely terrific! Sadly my work computer runs on an outdated browser, and doesn’t like .png files… so I cannot read the Ethel posts at work – but at home there’s no stopping me!
Topics… topics… goodness, what haven’t you covered?! I’ll have to get back to you on that! Maybe it will require a visit to your archives to see what you haven’t posted about, or that we’d like to see your elaborate on! ♥
to Donna B.'s comment
Woo-hoo! Congratulations! I just ordered my first pair of Ethel Gloves!
to Ashley W's comment
YAY, which pair did you get?

That’s terrific. Congratulations and good luck. Please let Ethel know that my daughter is working on a screenplay with one of the main characters name being Ethel. There’s also a great cowboy bar/cafe in Bakersfield called Ethel’s. Perhaps there is a revival in names of yesterday.
Now I’m off to Ethel’s.
to MAYBELLINE's comment
It is a great name isn’t it.

Congratulations Susy, that’s just so awesome!

WOW! Congratulations. I will head over and check out the blog and I will also head over to check out the gloves again. Congrats! Emily

Congratulations!! Your a very hard working woman.
to Teresa Rawlings's comment
You do know that it’s vaguely suspicious, and possibly against the rules, if not actively unpatriotic, to make a living at blogging? ;) Congrats!
to Xan's comment
Well it sure will be a while until I’m making a “living” at least a decent one at this.
to Susy's comment
Congrats!! I’m heading over to Ethels now to check out their gloves…I just might “need” a pair or two!
to Vivian's comment
I just ordered 2 pairs of gloves. I will let you know what I think.
Thanks!

Ok, I have a question for you: I work at a post office, handling mail and packages, and I like to wear gloves since all that paper and cardboard really does a number on your hands. The post office has gloves you can have to use, but most are for men and are too big for my little fingers. I found a pair that fit me, a knit type with that plastic-y blue coating on the palms and fingers. One problem: they make my hands sweat so bad I can barely stand to wear them! Is there an Ethel glove that is grippy and protective, but also breathable?
to Carrie's comment
I would recommend the Utility Gloves, they are a knit glove dipped so the palm is rubberized. I just got my pair last fall, so I haven’t worn them during the heat so I’m not sure about the coolness. I do find the regular Ethel gloves to be much cooler than other gardening gloves so I’m guessing these are much cooler than other rubberized gloves.
to Susy's comment
That is what I was thinking as well, as those are similar to the ones I use currently. I was also comtemplating the bamboo gloves, since they specifically mention that they are lightweight. Maybe I will get both! Not like I won’t have a use for them!
to Carrie's comment
Congrats and thanks so much for sharing the Ethel site. I have been waiting for a recommendation like this for awhile!
to Jenny's comment
Thanks so much for mentioning these gloves. I had never heard of them before this post. I ordered the Jubilee pair and yesterday, while shopping at Terrain, I found a pair of Ethel gloves on sale and I bought them. So happy I did. I tested them today as I worked in the garden for 2 hrs adding compost to mybeds. They were great ans I especiamly loved the elastic around the wrist (I am always paranoid that some bug will find its way in my gloves). Thanks a lot!
to Estelle's comment
So jealous that you can go to Terrain, I love that place! I too like the elastic around the wrist.
to Susy's comment
Oh, you have been there?! I saw you went to Longwood Gardens, but did not think you had been to Terrain, too! It is a nice store, pricey, but they do have good sale. If you ever come back in this area, I’d love to meet you – I am a Longwood Gardens member and I have a few free guest passes ;)
to Estelle's comment
I haven’t been to their store, I just dream while on their website. I do LOVE Longwood and wish I lived closer so I could have a membership. Mr Chiots and I were just saying we needed to plan a trip this summer since both times we’ve been to Longwood have been during their spring bulb bloom.
to Susy's comment
That would be great, plus you would get to go to Terrain this time, the store is only 30 min away in Glen Mills! Both the website and the store are great sources of inspiration.
to Estelle's comment
And speaking of Terrain, I bet they will be happy to have you as a guest in their stores, they organize quite a few events throughout the year, with cookbook authors, gardeners, etc.
to Estelle's comment
Congratulations, Susy!! I love my Ethel gloves, too. Nothing fits as well as my Ethels!
