Quote of the Day: John Gunther
All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.
-John Gunther
There’s nothing quite like starting the day with a good breakfast. I’m not picky about what I eat for breakfast except that it can’t come from a box and I prefer it to be warm. We don’t go for cereals or other pre-made things, if we’re looking for a quick breakfast a piece of sourdough bread toasted in a cast iron skillet with some good pastured butter is our breakfast of choice. We also like scones for quick grab and go breakfasts.
Once or twice a week we enjoy a breakfast featuring eggs. Whether a hearty “farmers” breakfast as they’re called in diners around the country. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, sometimes mushrooms, and onions as well. Sometimes it’s an omelet and sometimes simply scrambled eggs. Every now and then I’ll whip up a breakfast pizza!
In the winter we love steaming bowls of oat groats topped with nuts, crystallized ginger, cinnamon, raisins and some maple syrup. We also enjoy warm coconut rice pudding on occasion.
Lately we’ve been eating sourdough pancakes a few days a week since we have such a bounty of maple syrup in the pantry from the 2011 sugaring season.
No breakfast is complete without a cup of coffee with raw milk. This is of course my favorite part of breakfast!
What’s a typical breakfast for you?

I love your coffee mug. I collect handmade mugs! Very pretty!

I love these mugs, we have two that are similar but different since they’re handmade. A local potter made them from Ohio clay. We’re lucky that there are several local potters that sell beautiful stuff at our local farmer’s market! I’ve been buying bowls and other beautiful items every now and then when I need them.

Eggs. Lots and lots of eggs. Almost every day, lately scrambled with salsa, as that is the child’s preference and he’s a little dictator. Good thing I made so much salsa last summer.
Oatmeal on the days we don’t eat eggs. Yogurt when I’m lazy, but that never holds us for long.
Actually, when I was first nursing Cubby and producing milk like a dairy cow, I HAD TO eat two eggs every single day. Preferably with bacon or sausage. But definitely the eggs. Every day or I felt I would die. Eggs are what grew my son into the giant he is today. Funny how I never used to eat eggs, and now . . .

Oh, dear – I feel so inadequate with a usual breakfast of a banana and two cups of coffee. :-)

I’m not much of a breakfast person though, I usually just drink a cup of coffee but if I do eat breakfast it is usually some cereal but if I’m on vacation I’ll what the hotel provides.

I too love your mug.. Awesome mugs make life grand.. :D
I usually eat small omelets or quiche during the week.. I make the crustless quiche ahead and have them ready to pop in my lunch bag during the week, or I’ll saute the veggies for an omelet while Im getting ready for work and do the final steps as Im ready to walk out the door.
I take them with me & eat at work.
During the weekends, we usually have eggs & bacon, sometimes ham or sausage..sometimes hashbrowns. Honey has toast or english muffins.. I dont do grains much myself.
Every once in a great while I’ll have oatmeal, but it doesnt like me.. so its only once or twice a year..
The coconut rice pudding sounds good though.. Bet I could tolerate something like that.. Yum! :D
Have a beautiful Sunday!

We are a big breakfast family. Eggs in some form or another are part of breakfast at least 5 times a week. Baked oatmeal happens a couple times a month too. I posted the baked oatmeal recipe earlier this week, if that is something you are interested in trying. Otherwise, it’s old fashioned oats or steel cut oatmeal. We all do better with a warm breakfast in the morning.

I have to have some kind of pprotein or I don’t make it through the morning. One of my favorites is brown rice (cooked day before) mixed with spinach or chard, a scrambled egg and cheddar cheese. Healthy and hearty.I also love smoked salmon on toast or with eggs. I also have eggs allmost every day.

Homemade muesli in summer and organic porridge in winter with some raisins and honey stirred in. And a good cup of tea :) No time anymore for toast or store-bought cereal, I’m hungry again by 9am!! You have a great variety of breakfasts – you have gotten me thinking that I should start cooking up breakfast on the weekends…

Hmm breakfast, I think the most important thing is to take your time, I like at least an hour in the morning to get going. I do my own mix up of flaxmeal, toasted buckwheat, dried fruit and nuts, coconut milk, sunflower seeds, maca powder, maple syrup, yoghurt and real coffee.

It’s a toss up between a giant breakfast burrito or a stack of banana pancakes with coffee. Either of which make for a spectacular dinner as well. :)

I usually fix oat groats or have eggs with homemade bread with honey on it for breakfast. Your scones look wonderful-I don’t have a good recipe yet-would you be willing to share?
