Quote of the Day: Tasha Tudor

June 19th, 2011

The gloom of the world is but a shadow.
Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy. Take Joy!

Tasha Tudor

I was thinking about this quote when I noticed this peony hiding behind the fence last week. What joy gardening can bring to our lives. I would much rather spend time in the garden cultivating plants than watching the news.

If you’ve never read Tasha Tudor’s Garden you should request it from the library. It’s a great book to enjoy with a cup to tea or coffee on a rainy afternoon. You’ll love seeing images of her gardens and reading about her simple life.

The longer I garden the less I see tasks like weeding as chores. I find that through these “mindless” activities I find peace, joy and solace. There’s something about this type of work that allows your mind to wander the way it can’t when doing other kinds of work.

What kinds of things bring joy to your life?

That’s a good quote! My peonies are in bloom now too, beautiful! I like puttering in the garden and driving the tractor. Both jobs allow peace, planning and meditation while working.

Tasha Tudor had a beautiful life. I love the photos of her print dresses and bare feet. Did you know that her daughter wrote a book about her life?

You share the best books.. Thanks so much for that..

I’ve been gardening all my adult life which is 30 years.. and I totally agree with you I find peace, joy, & solace in working in the garden. There have been one or two years where i had no garden at all.. and I missed it so much.. I felt so oddly empty..
Babies & little kiddies bring me joy… I love hearing a little one giggle.. its so precious…
Old people laughing bring me joy… and so does listening to stories they have to share..
    Laughter brings me joy…
A vase of flowers from my yard or one of my orchids blooming brings me joy..
Cool crisp weather brings me joy..
I can go on & on.. There are so many things in life that bring me joy.. I believe that we will find joy where we chose to.. that its not just an unexpected experience, though it happens that way as well..

Your photographs bring me joy… Have a great day!! :)

I could not agree more, joy is the word. I have found myself several times lately watering, wishing I had time to sit for an hour and weed! I guess I need to clear my calender for some basic essentials in my life.
