Fairy Gardening and a Giveaway
For the last couple years I’ve been admiring the fairy gardens at one of my local greenhouses. They are very lovely and quite elaborate. I never really thought about putting one in here, until now.
I happen to really love all the diminutive plants that you use and the idea of putting them all together in a teeny tiny garden seems like so much fun! And don’t even get me started on all the cute tiny pots and other things you can get for them, like these tiny glass cloches and terra cotta pots I found.
Two weeks ago Ethel sent me a Fairy Gardening kit to put together with my nieces & nephew. We had a blast doing it as you can see in the video that we made. Watch it here.
If you’re looking for ways to get your kids interested in gardening, or something hands on for homeschooling, putting together a fairy gardening is a great way to engage them! My nieces & nephew really loved all the tiny plants and the little chairs and garden ornaments. I remember when I was growing up my mom always had a miniature cactus garden on the coffee table. It was a fairy garden of sorts, a desert version with cactuses and a tiny little chiva (which is a traditional Colombian bus).
I’m thinking next summer I might make the area around my garden pond a fairy garden of sorts. I have a small church that I’ll use and I bought a few of those beautiful little glass cloches for myself. Ethel is giving away a Fairy Gardening kit just like the one we put together in the video and the one pictured above (minus cloches & plants) to one lucky person, follow the video link above to see how you can enter for your chance to win.
Have you ever seen a fairy garden? Do you have one in your garden? Would you ever think of having one?

Your neices and nephew are adorable. This reminds me of fairy houses I first saw several years ago when my daughter went to a summer camp in Maine. As you take hikes you stumble upon all of these adorable fairy houses in the woods. We brought the idea to our junior adubon program and now they love making fairy houses along the trails. They only use natural items found in the area.(mosses, pinecones etc). We make them in the nook of a tree or snuggled up to a rock. I want to make one or two outside in my yard for guests to discover.

I always dreamt of a fairy garden when I was a kid. Maybe that is why I am planting so many trees, to have little fairy glens (for grandkids by the time they grow). Gardening IS magic, I’m sure of it.

What an adorable idea! I never thought of it, probably because I don’t have daughters. So sweet!

I always thought it would be cool to make a miniature garden that looks like my garden complete with tiny wine bottles borders, adirondack chairs and firepit…I need to do this!

What fun! We used to make terrariums when I was younger. I loved all the different kinds of moss and little twigs and leaves and other tiny plants and things that we would put in them. A magical little wonderland!

I have had fairy gardens at different times. Now I do not have one in the house. We have little things hidden outside. Three years ago my son wanted to make fairy gardens at his birthday party! I wish I’d photographed them. The children had so much fun.

Very Cool,
Have you ever been to Ann Arbor? They have little fairy doors all over the city at businesses. This little garden reminds me exactly of that. I would love to have one.
Happy Gardening!

Oh my, this is so cute! One of our favorite books is Fairy Houses, written by Tracey Kane. The boys are often building houses around our yard. They often gather materials on walks, or camping trips to bring back for their fairy. What a great idea.
