Passing Along the Love of Nature

November 17th, 2011

Last Wednesday we met my parents and our nieces & nephew down at the family cabin. It was a beautiful November day, perfect for a day out in nature! We had a grand day doing all the fun stuff that I did with my siblings and my cousins as a kid. We hiked around the woods, played in the creek, built forts in the pine forest and had a gun safety lesson. Mr Chiots worked on rebuilding his tree stand as well. Here’s a slideshow of our fun day. Use the arrow buttons on the side of the player, if you click on the small icon in the top left hand corner you can view the slide show in full screen (click the button again to exit full screen mode when you’re finished).

It’s nice to see that the kids are growing up having the same wonderful experiences that we did as kids. Hopefully they’ll have fond memories as I do of the “Briar Patch” as it’s called in our family!

Do you have a place that you remember fondly from your childhood?

Stunning photos! Looks like a memorable day.

I remember childhood vacations spent in Wisconsin. A cabin, a pool and some old-fashioned fun (without tv or computers) was all it took to make me really happy. Some things don’t change!

Isn’t it interesting that often our fondest childhood memories have nothing to do with “things” and yet people focus on buying things for their kids instead of just being with them and taking them out to enjoy nature!

Plenty. Having “Ozzie & Harriet” as parents while living in “Mayberry” was wonderful. I wouldn’t trade it for being a kid today. Ever.

My Granny’s house. She lived in a small town, and we’d often spend time in the yard, her garden, or walking through the rural cemetery. But, more than that, her house was filled with bits of nature that she’d pick up and want to keep around: rocks, pine cones, and even old paper wasp nests — which she’s use to hold matches next to her stove or fireplace. She loved nature and she helped me learn to love it too.

There were lots of places I loved and remember fondly.. Each of my grandparents places, the land I grew up on and then the land I reached adulthood on too. All are filled with fond memories.

South Padre Island & Matamoros, Mexico in South Texas are two places I have many many fond memories of.. good times…

We used to go to Lake Texoma too during the summers. Our family who lived in Houston would come up for vacation & we’d all descend upon the lake for a couple weeks.

    Good times, good memories!

We lived next to US Forest Land growing up and spent many a day roaming the woods.

Love the pics. By the way, what kind of camera do you use?
