Christmas in Zoar 2011
Mr Chiots and I always kick off our holiday season by going to Christmas in Zoar. We usually plan ahead and go with friends, but this year time got away from us and we didn’t realize it was happening until Sunday around noon. We put the coffee we were drinking into to-go mugs, jumped in the car and headed down for an afternoon of holiday fun. It’s a great way to get into the spirit because all the houses are decorated beautifully for Christmas outside and in. Each year there are a few houses on tour, we’ve been going for so long we’ve toured almost every home. It’s truly a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit. Here’s a slideshow of all the Christmas we saw on Sunday afternoon. Here’s a slideshow to help get you into the Christmas spirit. You’ll notice there are garden photos in there as well, I can’t help myself! (use icon in the top left corn to view in full screen). Be patient, there are 60 photos to get you in the Christmas spirit!

The gardens of Zoar are also lovely and I’m always hoping to go to their summer garden tour, sadly we’re always working on the Saturday they have it and they don’t announce it far enough ahead of time for me to book events around it. Hopefully later today we’ll head out to get our Christmas tree, then it will officially be the Christmas season at Chiot’s Run.
Do you have any holiday traditions that officially kick off the season for you?

Nothing really kicks off the season but we do open our presents on Christmas Eve.

My husband and I just bought our first real Christmas tree yesterday. The house smells lovely and it is starting to feel like Christmas finally. It helps that the weather is finally cooling off. Kicking off Christmas is always difficult in the South given that we have equal chances of wearing shorts as wearing sweaters for most of the holiday season.
Thanks for the pictures and have fun getting your tree!!

That looks like a really lovely place…I’ve never heard of it..
I love Ohio for all the little special places & festivals that dot the map. I’ve never known any other state to have as many as Ohio does, but Im from the South too, maybe its a more Northern thing.. I’ve not traveled to many other states up here..
We miss festivals and dayz too sometimes but I started a calendar and put the events on it to check on a week before the date/weekend it was on this year.. It has helped a lot!! Most events tend to occur on the same weekend of the year.
I should put the dates in my phone calendar to give me a notice to check on them.. I have to say, I do love my phone. It keeps me more organized & up to date. ;)

Me too, I usually have it on my front porch but I haven’t gotten any yet this year, not sure if I’ll end up getting any.

A couple of years back we went to the Candle Christmas event at Greenfield Village. I love that place no matter what, but it was just BEAUTIFUL that night. People were caroling in historic costumes, you could get hot cider… I was torn this year to go again as we were debating holiday plans, but it seems we WILL be visiting DC. I will have to wait until next year, then…

The village will still have all the decorations up for anyone to see throughout the holidays. We have rooms available for reservations as well as other B&B’s in the village. Decemeber 26th the shop keepers and the Zoar Store are having a big sale. Visit us and step back in time for the holidays! Loved your pictures “just beautiful”.
