Behind the Scenes

January 3rd, 2012

If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know that Mr Chiots and I own a business and are self-employed (our business is 2nd Mile Productions). Mr Chiots does websites (new Chiot’s Run blog in the works) and we do video production as well. We love being self-employed, but sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge as well. Last week we spent the better part of two days filming and editing a couple videos for Ethel Gloves. I had to laugh when I came out of the office and headed down the hallway to the kitchen; our kitchen had been turned into a set.

It’s not just for our video jobs that this happens either, since almost every thing in our lives is photographed for this blog, you’ll find me taking photos of our food right before we eat, the garden while I’m working, and my life in general as things happen. I sometimes wonder if my family gets sick of seeing my camera more than they see my face! My life is definitely not “normal”, but then again, who’s life is?

What would you like to see us make a video about?

I would love to get an overview of your property. We’ve obviously seen bits and pieces of different parts of your garden but I can never imagine how the whole thing comes together!

I’m not real sure what I’d like to see a video of. You’re such a wealth of information, it’s hard to pick just one! Maybe your garden designing?

By the way, I love how since you’ve moved your chair into a new spot, your cat feels the need to sit on it. My cat does the same thing. If you move anything to a different spot, she goes and sits on it.

We loved that she looks like she was directing. You will notice them sneaking through the backgrounds of the various videos. They sleep most of the day, but when we get out the cameras they feel the need to come around to get their cameo appearance.

I do the same thing. Almost everything we eat gets photographed.

I’d love to see videos of various stages of your garden, as it looks amazing.

Happy New Year to you both!

I remember a while back you mentioned something about teaching another blogger I think it was how to throw a pizza crust– that’s something I would love to learn how to do. I was thinking about that when i was rolling out my pizza dough the other day! BTW, Love your kitchen- really pretty!

Thanks (about the kitchen compliment). It was actually a cheap contractor grade cabinets, ugly flooring, etc when we moved in. We simply painted the cabinets black, added pulls and some moulding to the tops/bottoms to give them a more custom look. It cost only about $100 and made a HUGE difference! Don’t you think it will look even better with butcher block counters? Here’s a before picture on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chiotsrun/4955782360/

I can’t think of any videos I would like to see but I have to tell you that I love that the cat is sitting in the chair watching….like a director. :)

I would also love a virtual garden tour -esp of the vegetable garden including any staking methods you use for tomatoes, cukes etc. Love your cat- ours sits in a chair like that every evening at the dining room table while we are eating dinner.
