Eat Outside the Bag

I’ve been talking about starting a food blog for quite a while now and people have been asking about it since I first mentioned it. Figuring I’d never get it done if I waited until I had time, I spent a few hours last night setting it up. The introductory first recipe post is up, and soon all the recipes from Chiot’s Run will be transitioned over to Eat Outside the Bag.

Why Eat Outside the Bag? Because that’s how we eat. It will be all about the kinds of things I talk about here, focusing on real food, simple food, seasonal food, local food, and tasty food! Generally that means food that doesn’t come in a box or a bag, but from your garden, a local farmer, market or a small artisan producer.

There won’t be a post every day, probably once a week, I’ll try to come up with a specific day so you know when to expect something. I’ll also use it to post interesting food/health related articles that I find, quotes about food/cooking, great ingredients and cookbook reviews. Make sure you check back next week because I’ll be doing a giveaway of one of my favorite bread baking books.

    Crikey Suzy…how do you find the time to do all this? Do you sleep at all?! :) I am looking forward to reading ‘Eat outside the Bag’ infact that shall be my next stop. The compost heap may have to wait a while!

      8 hours a night – I attribute all my energy to all the butter & lard I eat :)

    I would love to see a section on fementing. I also want to say how special I think it is to have recipes that my mother or grandmother wrote out and used. Just think of the pies that have been made with that card sitting on the counter! Very special.

    Yay! I am so excited to see this! I have so enjoyed all the recipes you have shared. I am hooked on tomato soup-yum . . . lemon pound cake-just ordered my lemons from the Lemon Ladies . . . tasty golden rolls-delish . . . tomato preserves-like eating candy . . . cranberry bread pudding mistake-now a fave . . . and so many more delicious things you have prompted me to try. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to more, although I can’t imagine how busy you must be!

      Thanks, glad you’ve enjoyed the recipes so far. I have so many photos of various dishes that I’ve been meaning to get around to adding the recipes for – but then I never have the space to do it here at Chiot’s Run. Figured it would be good to get all the cooking related items over in one place.

    Any recipe regarding your subject matter works for me as we are about 6 months in to changing our diets to all natural whole foods.

    Can’t wait to read your new blog. You have many great recipes, the tomato soup is our favorite. I canned 45 quarts this summer/fall and we have about a dozen left. Our 3 year old boy loves it!

    Right now, I’m making blackberry/rhubarb pie with frozen fruit from our garden. My favorite pie is whatever pie I have on the table.

    I’m like all of the others that ask: Where do you find the time, boy, I wish you would bottle it up and sell it, I need a little boost.
    I am excited about your “Eat outside the Box” and look so forward to it. Currently, I am going to make a pumpkin pie with my last jar of pumpkin I canned last year. I also love a good apple pie or cobbler.

    This is great. I love your recipes.

    I do have a request though. Since it is the beginning of the blog even though you have already “designed the layout, is it too late to include a blog archive title list and/or a “next/previous” button at the bottom of each entry? I sometimes read a week’s worth of entries at a time and if it is more than the 5 listed in your “recent post” it can be difficult to navigate. And being able to look at an archive listing of titles makes it so much easier to find things. Like something I know you wrote last spring about garlic…. or was that the spring before last? Throwback at Trapper Creek http://matronofhusbandry.wordpress.com/ is a great example of easy navigation.

    I can’t wait to try some more of your recipes!!
