Visiting Naples Botanical Garden

March 13th, 2012

While we were in Florida a few weeks ago, we took one morning to visit Naples Botanical Garden. It was so nice to see so much lush foliage and such beautiful color, especially since the garden back home was still covered in a blanket of snow. I’m always amazed by the brightness of the foliage and flowers of tropical plants, we don’t often get such saturated color in our northern gardens. I’m sure they would look out of the place though, somehow these colors need heat to look at home!

It was hard to narrow down the images since there were so many interesting things (more over at Flickr). Plus I figured all you who live in the North would really love to see the lush garden since it will be a while until our gardens spring to life once again. Are you a fan of bright tropical plants or do you prefer the more subdued plants of the northern gardens?

The colors are outrageous, but I still prefer my lavender to some of the tropical beauties. These pictures inspire the traveler in me…we have a springtime trip to NYC on the horizon and a summer trip to California so far!

New York Botanical gardens are worth a trip if you have never been.

Thanks for sharing that beautiful album! I like any plants that are “at home” In Florida ,I enjoy seeing all the lush tropical plants, but wouldn’t enjoy that in the Northeast. Although once in a while I will buy lantana, elephant ear ,hibiscus,or mandevilla vine for the garden,so I guess I can be seduced. Oh ya and orchids…..Hahaha Guess i like it all!

Looks like you had a beautiful day for a visit.
Although I live in (almost) the tropics, I prefer non-tropical plants. You won’t find a palm tree on our property!

What a great break from the winter chills. Having had a traditional English Country garden in North Yorkshire, England and now a full on tropical garden, I have to say I love the two very different styles and generally prefer to see plants in their natural surroundings. My English garden was all about pale pinks, blues, mauves and pale yellows and now I have cerise, bright yellow and even hot pink and bright orange on the same plant, colours I would never have considered previously. I must say though I miss my old English & French roses……thanks for sharing, as always : )

I love the Naples Botanic Garden, but wasn’t able to get there during my visit to Naples this winter. It looks like they have made it even better. Great photos!

I definitely miss good, tropical botanic gardens. The temperate gardens will usually have a green house of some sort and do a half-hearted attempted to put some tropicals in, and I’m always disappointed.

    I’m a sucker for a diverse garden!
