Happy Mother’s Day
Yesterday, I went over to my mom’s. We picked up my nieces and went to the Buchwalter Greenhouse so they could buy a Mother’s Day gift for their mom (my sister). They also needed to get a few new plants for the Fairy Garden that we made last fall. They really enjoyed walking around the entire greenhouse oohing and ahhing over all the beautiful flowers. They debated and argued over what they wanted to get for their mom.
They finally settled on this lovely hanging basket bursting with lovely flowers. My mom buys it and the kids pay it off with chores at her house. I also purchased the same basket for my mom and it looks great hanging on her front porch.
On the way home we stopped by Hartzler’s Dairy to pick up some ice cream. The kids then spent the afternoon playing outside with a cart my dad built that my sister and I used to play on when we were kids. I think flowers and plants make the perfect gift, you can plant them in the garden, enjoy them on the porch and when the season is over they can become houseplants or go into the compost pile.
Do you enjoy receiving flowers for gifts for Mother’s Day or other holidays?

Ahh, memories… my wife used to work at Buchwalter’s when she was in high school and was in the same class as one of their daughters…
I like giving plants as gifts, and sometimes receiving them, although being a guy, I think I like getting tools more. You can never have too many… Although anymore, I’m not really into the material things, unless it’s something useful that I’ve been actively looking at. I don’t like getting “stuff” just because it’s a holiday and people feel like they have to give “stuff.”

My husband and I found plans to make a wooden gokart very similar to the ones the kids are pulling in the bottom picture— was this handmade, or bought from a store?

My dad made it. Originally it had wheels from old roller skates that no longer fit us. My dad made it when we were young and then we brought it back here to the US. Eventually the wheels were replaced with lawn mower tires. It still enjoys lots of use.

I am “hoping” for a hedge trimmer this year for Mother’s Day. I love plantable flowers and plants, too, but I have already purchased plenty of flowers/bushes/trees this spring already… :)

Love the recognition. Last year, we came home from church and found a delivery on our porch. I opened the box and there was a beautiful flower arrangement in a teacup & saucer. It was from one of my daughters. It was a wonderful surprise – she knows how much I love flowers, tea, and pretty tea cups. Wonderful Day.
