From the Archives

July 7th, 2012

Since a move is in our future, I’ve been going through boxes little by little to avoid having to do it all at once. I found a box in the attic of old photos. Growing up we had all kinds of pets, but guinea pigs were my favorite. When we were in the states, we always had one.

Even though we had several guinea pigs, his name was always guinea and he always was the same kind. We’d have him for the year we were here and then he’d be given to a friend when we’d head back down to Colombia.

I have fond memories of dressing my guinea pig up with hats and playing with him. Someday I’ll have a few pet guinea pigs again. They’re such fun little animals to have around.

What was your favorite pet as a kid?

My favorite pet was a German Shepherd. Things haven’t changed much except now I have 3.

We have 3 guines pigs. The the only time they are not squealing is when they are eating. I enjoy watching them and the way they interact with each other. A definite pecking order.

I don’t think I ever had a favorite or endearing pet growing up.

We had 2 baby raccoons that were pretty cool… for about a year, but other than that.. it was dogs, mostly Labs since my dad was a breeder, and cats.
I did have 4 gerbils when I was a teenager. I was only gonna buy 2 so they could have company but the other 2 were deformed so the pet shop threw the other two in for next to nothing They were fun.

    Ahh! Kid Susy! >w<

when I was a kid, I was a bit of an animal collector… Whatever I found was a pet… like the Wolf Spider that found it's way into the upstairs bathroom… I kept him/her for awhile and set it free in the gully behind my house…
…then my annoying neighbour-kid was harrassing a spider in his backyard, and got bit. I just knew it was my little Wolfie… ohohohohoo…

I’ve always been cat crazy. Growing up I had a dog as well, but we lived in the country and she got to run around so it was easier to take care of her. The cats were also restricted to outside only. I love having indoor cats!

I had a pair of rats, Mickey and Snowflake when I was a kid, and they made great pets. They were friendly and would sit on my shoulders when I sat at my desk. I thought they were much nicer and more interactive than hamsters or rabbits, which we also had.

Susy, your guinea pig(s) is adorable. We have always had cats, and I still do, but I did have a guinea pig growing up. Wilbur! He lived for ever. I almost just adopted a bunny, but at least I get to visit him next door and another friend has a guinea pig she has offered to me…. still thinking about it.
