It’s Blooming!

August 13th, 2012

A few weeks ago, I noticed my Echeveria Peacockii Succulent was getting ready to bloom. I’ve been carefully watching and waiting for the blooms to open up.

It really is quite lovely and interesting. It’s not just a pretty face, I notice that the hummingbirds are always flying around it enjoying it’s nectar.

I sometimes wonder if the hummingbirds love plants like this in northern gardens. No doubt they enjoy echeverias when they’re spending the winter in tropical regions. Maybe for them it’s like it is for me when I savor a Colombian treat that reminds me of my childhood in South America.

Are there any foods/scents that bring back memories of a different time/place for you?

I,too, was totally surprised when I saw my first Hens and Chicks bloom. I didn’t know they did.Amazing sight. Now I am anxiously waiting my Moon Vine to bloom. I have had this flower once before, but it bloomed while I was on vacation for a week, so I missed it’s blooming.I found seeds for it once more, and am still waiting to see it blooms.I have 2 plants in containers. I think it might have bloomed sooner, had I planted it directly in the ground.I hope to have pictures when it finally does bloom.

P.S. I have loads of the Moon Flower plants. They have huge beautiful white blooms, very sweet smelling, bloom at night, and great for attracting honeybees, but the Moon Vine is a different plant..

Beautiful. I love the vivid orange bloom against the pale blue/grey of the plant.

Growing up we had a lot of flowers, especially geraniums & bird of paradise. The images take me instantly back to lazy summer days in my pool. Ah to be young & carefree!

I love the blooms on this echeveria, and wish more people would photograph is from its profile to get the shapes you did. Man, those blooms are beautiful.

    Its beautiful…

Yes, bougainvilla, mandeville, gardenia, orange, lime, kumquat, bananas, wild peppers, wild aloe and other cacti all bring back my so sweet childhood.

So do peach, pecan, mesquite, ebony, palms, Bois D’Arc (Horse Apple), hickory and wild plum, pears & persimmons…

Actually, I could keep on & on… I spent almost every moment of my life outside out in the woods, climbing trees, or out in the pastures & meadows with various members of my family, though most of it was exploring on my own..

Plants & trees probably more than anything else brings back childhood memories for me..
