Friday Favorite: Meeting You
In this day in age it’s very common to know someone and yet to never have actually met them in person. Every now and then I get the opportunity to meet one of my blog readers and it’s always fun. Earlier this spring , Mr Chiots and I stayed with a blog reader in Maine. She said it was kind of funny to meet me in person because she knew so much about me having read my blog, but I knew nothing about her.
Yesterday evening I had the chance to meet another blog reader. Her and her husband came down to Chiot’s Run for dinner. I made homemade pasta and topped it with garden fresh veggies. She headed home with my cold frame and a few plants for her garden.
We enjoyed good food and lots of great conversation. In fact, it almost got dark while we were talking over empty plates and we almost missed the garden tour. A month or two ago, another reader stopped by for brunch when she happened to be in the area. I truly enjoy meeting and chatting with my blog readers in person, it’s certainly a pleasure to get a glimpse into your lives. If you’re ever in midcoast Maine, contact me. Swing by for coffee, a meal or even a night or two, we’d be happy to meet you in person!
Have you ever met an internet friend before?

Long before blogs are what they have become, forums were the place to hang out. In 2000-2002 and then some other times since then, I met several internet friends. Back then it was considered creepy to meet someone from the internet—and I’m sure some people think that way—but the perspective has definitely changed.

No I havent but I have a pen friend that I had written too since my young teen days & we finally met up some 20yrs into our letter writing! We have travelled (12hr flight) to stay with each other a couple of times since then :) It was strange as we knew so much about each other but had never been face to face. Lol.

Susy and Brian, you two are excellent hosts! I have met several internet friends, but this was the first time for my husband! We both had fun and I think it is all the more likely I will get him up to Maine for a visit! I love meeting new people and making new friends!

“Her” (?) and her husband came…
When in doubt, check usage by leaving out “and her husband” and see if it sounds right, i.e., “Her came down to Chiot’s Run…” obviously doesn’t sound right, so use “She.”
I just came upon your blog and I don’t mean to be contumelious, but when I see the English language misused/misspelled, I just have to say something! I feel it is important to use English correctly even with phatic blog entries.
Have a great day!

Thanks for the grammar lesson. Since I’m often writing these posts late at night, I don’t always catch grammatical errors. I usually proofread them in the morning. If you were a regular reader, you’d know why I’m a bit too busy to proofread at the moment. Perhaps I should start sending you rough drafts of my daily blog posts every night to proofread for me, let me know if you’re interested.

Actually, I thought of offering my services, but I already have too much editorial work, on top of running a 15-acre farm!
I’m sure most readers don’t notice grammar issues like that. It’s a pet peeve of mine and you just happened to be on the receiving end today!
Best of luck with your move!

I’ve met quite a few of them. And recently, I married one. :)
Will definitely hit you up if I’m ever in Maine! Same goes for you if you’re ever in Houston!

I had a blast from the past when I read Misti’s comment about forums. I met a guy on a forum back when I was sixteen and we corresponded for 5 or 6 years but our interests kinda diverged and never met in person. I met my boyfriend thanks to Plenty Of Fish but I met many weirdos before I lucked out on him. If ever you come to Calgary, we are both welcome to stop in for a meal or a stay and a stroll in my garden.

Seriously–If you and Mr. Chiots are every coming through Charleston, WV again, get in touch with me and we’ll go grab a bite to eat at a place that serves local sustainable goodies. And, if I ever make it to Maine, I’ll definitely look you up! I’d love to meet Dexter in the flesh… er, fur!

Dexter is a social butterfly – I’m sure he’d LOVE to meet you too!

Actually I’ve met many folks in person that I met online. As Misti mentioned, forums were the thing back in the 90s, and there were a bunch of us from one of them that used to get together ever so often. Since we were from all over the US & England & Australia too, we would meet up at different places as a group and a lot of us met up locally and became good friends. I think the largest group meet ups were in Vegas, which we did several times, and then we’d host a get together in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, and there were some in Chicago and some in the NY City area.
I met M’honey online in that same forum group.. and this was definitely NOT the “thing” to do I wouldnt tell people that for year.. haha.. I remember there were a couple “couples” that got together from online and I remember thinking.. “Those crazy online people” :D Careful what you say.. I think God has a sense of humor. ;)
We’ve been together for 16 years now so I guess it was meant to be, no matter how it happened.
Funny thing about some people online. There are some who feel they can be rude and obnoxious online since they’re basically “anonymous” but would never be so much so in person and vice versa. You just never do know what motivates people to “show up” as they do.
Which reminds me of one of the guys I met in the aforementioned forum. Online, he was rude, obnoxious, and a bully. I disliked him intensely. But when I met him in person, he turned out to be the nicest guy and I even enjoyed showing him around town.
I’d love to meet you guys in person, but either way, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you here.. You’re totally delightful.

Too funny that you met your honey on-line. I remember when that was considered very crazy. Now it seems so normal.

It sure would be fun to visit you in Maine! My husband and I love Acadia, we visited there when we were living in PA and I have never forgotten the beauty of Maine!
