Quote of the Day: Walt Disney
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
Walt Disney (found at Brainy Quote)
Moving forward, that’s what will be happening this week. On Wednesday we’ll be headed east, down a new path to our new home.
I’ve had so many people asking if I’m going to miss this place. Maybe I will, but probably not. I grew up accustomed to moving and leaving things behind. As a result, I find myself more often excited about the possibilities ahead rather than bemoaning what lay behind. I find change to be rather exciting and exhilarating.
I’ve always said that change is good because it keeps us from getting stagnant.
Do you like/enjoy change?

Very good luck to you and Mr Chiot, and the cats,
I too think that change is about possibilities. When Penelope Hobhouse, the Great English gardener, creator of fabulous borders, decided to sell her house and garden she had worked on for years when in her sixties, everyone was appalled , but she said she was looking for a blank slate, and a new beginning!
You have created a lovely garden for someone who may not know how to begin, but will no doubt be spurred on to continue.
What fun ahead!
We all look forward to following the new adventure.
Thank you for posting so diligently.

I have always been a set down roots sort of person. I never moved until I married and then twice in one year and finally again in 25 years. I think I could move from this place in the woods with the right incentive which would be more open field/pasture space and a nice barn.

Good luck with the move! It’s probably good to be moving so far away and making a “clean getaway”. I have found myself missing our old house more than I thought I would. But that has partly been because we haven;t completely moved in yet and I am probably just missing when life was simpler and we didn’t own 2 houses. Hope the cats do OK with the move. Ours are adjusting, one better than the other.

Yesterday while on the beach I was reading Sheepish. There was a quote that made me think of you and what your doing.
After you’ve done a thing the same way for two years, look it over carefully. After five years, look at it with suspicion. And after ten years, throw it away and start all over.

Great quote. I was just thinking about that earlier this week. How it’s so easy to settle in to a comfortable routine and lose some of the zest that comes with change.

Change is hopeful, full of possibilities. A chance to use what you’ve learned from one set of mistakes, and an opportunity to make a ton more and learn from them too.
Change equals adventure! That’s how i feel anyway.
Best wishes on your new quest!

I wish I embraced change better, but I’m working on it.

Happy trails to the both of you as you begin your new adventures. I am with you-always up for a new adventure. I like change as long as I can control it a little, The kind you have no control over is a little more difficult to deal with. You should make it just in time to see the beautiful autumn leaves change color. Enjoy!

Yes, we’re pretty excited about seeing the leaf change. We’ll be making a trip back to Ohio too in October, so we’ll get to see it back here too!

As someone who grew up in New England (New Hampshire), has lived for the last 10 years int he Midwest (Minnesota), is moving back myself next month, and has recently read your entire archive I really think you will like Maine. Frankly I am jealous that you are moving to a large farm. The drive won’t be too bad, once you hit NY State (if you are going that way it is actually quite pretty). Good luck and make sure to drink plenty of coffee!

I too enjoy change. And you have good memories of Ohio to carry with you on your new adventure. I’m very excited for the two of you and your pet family as well!! Please be safe and keep us updated on the trip if you can!

The only change I like is in my piggy bank. To me, change must be very gradual.

I am certainly not one who likes change….but I really look forward to seeing what change is ahead for you, and I know you will both embrace it. Can’t wait to follow you on your new endeavors. Best of luck to you both and God bless!

…It depends what kinda change it is for me. Some of it I welcome where other times I dread it. Moving to Maine kind of change – bring it on. ;o)
…I know I’ve said this before but this is so exciting and it couldn’t be happening to a nicer couple. So happy for the both of you & your lil’ fur babies too!
…Is there any chance your Mom will be moving to Maine soon too? I’m certain she is gonna miss you back in Ohio.
…Either way, embrace this time and enjoy every moment!
…Blessings :o)

I agree with some of the others.. it depends upon the sort of change we’re talking about. Most I love.. and deeply need.. other sorts, I dont enjoy at all. :)

From the map page it looks like you’re heading to Maine via Polyface ;)

I really struggle with big changes – even though I know change can bring good things. I also just moved (from a tiny city lot to 5 acres!) on Aug 19, so exactly a month ahead of you. It was so scary to make that decision and purchase, but I already love it. So, I’m slowly learning that when I find myself in a rut, I need to force myself to change.

Change for the sake of change, no, change for the sake of growing, YES!

I do not like change, but I think what you guys are doing sounds like a wonderful adventure! Some days I do wish we could be adventurous enough to move to Montana (that would be my personal pick), but it would be very hard to leave family behind. And it is quite apparent to us that we will be the eventual care takers of both sets of parents.

Where you have your map showing, Nelson County, is where I grew up and spent about 25 years of my life… beautiful, wonderful area. We still have family and property there and enjoy visiting several times a year.

I used to move around quite a lot – where I am now is the first place I’ve spent more than a couple of years. I always feel a sense of excitement when I move (especially unpacking once I’m there – I love it) so I’m experiencing that vicariously through you while you move. :-) Wish you all the best in your new life!
