Back to Normal?

September 24th, 2012

Yesterday we took our neighbor to the airport in the early afternoon and started unpacking when we got home. So far, about 10 boxes have been emptied! It will take a long time since a thorough cleaning must precede the emptying of boxes.

Thankfully, our new neighbor brought us all kinds of delicious food. We’ve been feasting on her good cooking for the past couple days, which has allowed us to not worry about unpacking all the kitchen items.

It’s a daunting task to be sure, not just the unpacking, but trying to figure out where to put everything. How our lives will fit into this new space. No doubt, things will be moved several times until they settle into their spots.

The office is the first space that is being put in order. My desk and computer were set up last night so I could download these photos and write this post. Being without my main computer and my photos has been a bit of a challenge. We also need to get back to work.

How long would you last without your computer?

    Not very long!
I love both our modern technology and our very ancient gardening, cooking, preserving and home keeping practices.
I am still working on minimizing filing, and general use of paper, reading lots on line.
We still get the Sunday paper, letting it stack up for no till gardening uses.
Cardboard boxes are very useful in the garden too!
You are blessed, as we can see after a few days you already have connections with your neighbors, and they cook, to boot. Someday soon, everyone will cook, and hopefully garden!
As my Scottish friend would say: you’re winning now!

My computer = my paycheck, so not very long. Maybe a week for vacation but I’d still have my iPhone for checking in on clients. When you work for yourself, you work alllllllll the time!

I wouldn’t make it long without my computer either, both for personal communication and for work.

I can definitely relate to moving things a few times before settling into a new home. I’ve done quite a bit of moving stuff in the 6 months since we have moved, now I’m starting to find where I like things.

Sadly, I don’t think I would last long without the computer, either. While I enjoy the social media aspect, I need mine for writing. I honestly need to write something every day–or I’m cranky. Last year, we underwent a major renovation while living in our house. I feel your pain, living out of boxes and trying to find a place for everything! Wishing you much happiness in your new home! (And thank goodness for lovely new neighbors!)

When we knew we were moving and would own 2 houses for a while I bought a laptop (thankfully my job gives me a computer allowance) so I have my laptop at the new house and the desktop at the old house. This system has been working fairly well. I would be lost without my computer! Just research alone for all the plants I now need to care for has been great.
I am also having trouble figuring out where to put everything. Our lives are in such flux that I need a little stability. But we just moved our real bed to the new house (we’ve been sleeping on a camp bed at the new house) so we’ll get to sleep on a real bed tonight!
Good luck with all the cleaning, unpacking and organizing.

Technically, I could last without it. In reality? Not very long at all. Haha! I do digital art as a side-job, plus being a PC gamer? I couldn’t last very long without it… thankfully I don’t do all that social media, so those things aren’t as important. Hehee!

I’m happy the move was uneventful! [aside from Dexter’s little folly] I hope to see a post soon about how the chiots and le chat are doing! :D

[side question: where does your chair come from? I’m in the market for a new computer chair with a high back, and yours looks just lovely!]

I may be in the minority, but as much as I enjoy it (and do not need it for work purposes) I could and did live without it quite a bit this summer. We decided not to get internet service at our summer cottage. We are also TV less. I was skeptical about how we would manage, and it was wonderful and liberating. I did get to check my e-mail every few days though when I checked on the house. I love it when I have it, and surprisingly don;t miss it when I don’t have it.

We have lived in our house just over 4 years and we are still switching rooms around. UGH! I lived without a computer for the 2 weeks we were in England this summer. I per-scheduled all my blog posts and it worked out great. I was so busy seeing new things and enjoying that I didn’t miss it as much as I thought. How are the kitties adjusting?

I’ve gone on vacation for a week without a computer but much more than that & I’d probably be dead. ;)
I dont need one for work other than a few things, timekeeping & technical data, but I enjoy having one at my fingertips, always.

I can use my Droid to go online though its not much fun.. My eyes are quite old & though the Droid screen is large.. its not the same as a nice large screen monitor. ;)

I’d love to fantasize that i could give up all technology, but in truth, i’d miss talking with my family and reading wonderful blogs like yours.

    Hope everyone is well!

I’m sorry to admit it but I wouldn’t be very happy now without my computer. I entered the computer world kicking, screaming and dragging my feet but now I’m dependent and addicted. When we have a power outage, I plug my WiFi into my Power Dome so I can get on the net and keep in touch with the outside world. How sad is that?
