Friday Favorite: Chores
I’m an active person, therefore I love having things to do around the garden. If there’s not a book in my hand, I don’t like to sit still. During spring and fall, I especially enjoy doing outdoor chores. There’s just something about those days with crisp cold mornings and warm sunny afternoons! It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, it feels good to be active and to be outside.
There are no shortage of chores around here. I’ve been weeding the main garden up on the hill. Half of it was tilled under by the previous owner right before we came, half of it was full of buckwheat going to seed and weeds. The songbirds were loving it, as were the deer. I’ve been slowly working my way through and putting all the weeds in the chicken run. We also cleaned the chicken coop and whitewashed the floor. I’m experimenting with different white wash recipes, when I find a really great one I’ll share.
Today I’ll hopefully be heading to the Fedco warehouse sale (anyone else heading there?) and to Johnny’s Seeds to pick up some Fall Green Manure seeds for the garden. No doubt I’ll return home with more fall chores to keep me outside.
What fall chores have you been enjoying?

I have three favorite fall chores. The first is taking down the screens, washing and storing them until May. The second is planting my garlic as that is usually the last act of gardening until May. The third is moving the rabbits to their cages in the basement until late April and taking the turkeys to Jason’s for processing. Then I’m ready for winter to arrive.

Taking down the screens always produced a small celebration back in Ohio. Sadly, here the screens are connected to the storm windows.

I was hoping to go to the fedco sale today, but I’m scheduled to work unfortunately!

…Oh my stinkin’ heck, to live close enough to visit Johnny’s Seeds – how awesome is that?! ;o)
…We are working on our lawn. We’re having top soil trucked in to level out uneven areas and then we’ll be seeding. We’re also burying downspouts from the barn to direct all the run-off from the barn. Our barn also feeds our well which was disconnected via the previous owners and we are reconnecting that. We don’t drink from that well but I do water flowers from it. :o)
…Can’t wait to see photos of the Chiot’s Farm! *waiting ever so patiently* ;o)
…Enjoy your day!
…Blessings

I have so many chores to do it isn’t even funny! We still have dead pine trees to cut up and burn, re work several flower beds, take down some trees that look ragged under the power lines, re build a dock, get the veggie garden in….maybe one day we’ll get caught up!

I was raking up leaves last week but then got surprised by the sudden snowfall. Now that it has melted, I’ll have to get it done this weekend. I’ve also got a list of winterizing chores to do ( put away hoses, empty out outdoor water spouts, bring in various tools etc). I also have to pick my potatoes! Come hell or high water, mud or snow, I’m digging potatoes tomorrow and Sunday.

This year fall chores included adding more garden beds and creating hoops so we can grow greens through the winter months. We still need to chop wood (from old trees we had cut down) and clear garden beds of tomato and pepper plants. It’s a sweet time of year to get everything in order while dreaming of spring planting!

I too love working outside in the spring and fall. I can get so much more done as opposed to working in the hot weather. I should have spent the day on garden chores, but ended up spending it with a friend. At least the next couple days will be nice for me to work in.
Have a wonderful weekend.
