Holiday Fun

November 29th, 2012

This week we’ve been in Ohio. We traveled back on Thanksgiving day, enjoyed a big meal on Friday and on Saturday with our respective families. Sunday, Mr Chiots went down to the family cabin to hunt, while my mom and I stayed at her house. This week as been filled with lots good food and holiday fun.

We set up a small Christmas tree and the kids and I made popcorn, cranberry, and gumdrop garland for it. The kids loved making simple decorations for our tiny tree.

Later in the week we made cookies to send to my brother down in Georgia who won’t be able to make it up for a visit this year.

Tomorrow, Mr Chiots and I will be heading over to sign the closing papers on our house, the buyers will hopefully be signing next week. This coming weekend we’re celebrating Christmas with my family, then we’re heading back home to Maine. We’re looking forward to a laid back Christmas at home!

Do you ever celebrate holidays early?

Love the cookie pictures! Now that my children are grown,we have occasionally had to celebrate the holidays whenever we are together. This year we had an Election Day-Thanksgiving, complete with our own “turkey trot” before the meal just like we would have done on Thanksgiving. Being together is wonderful no matter what the calendar says. Glad you were able to enjoy an early Christmas with yours.

Oh yes, with family spread out or working on holidays, I celebrate any time I can get a group together.

I’ve never seen a garland quite like that one! I’ll have to add the gumdrops this year to ours. Thanks for the idea!
    Enjoy your early holiday!

I’m going to add gum drops to my shopping list. Very cute!

We’ll celebrate Christmas early with my parents and sister’s family this year. My parents, age 67 and 70, are going to Disney World for Christmas. They’re more excited than my niece and nephew who are going with them.

Nope.. We always celebrate the holidays on schedule.. We’ve never really needed to change it, but would with no problem if the need arose.

I have wonderful memories of my grandma teaching us to make garlands with cranberries & popcorn.. lovely lovely memory makers..

No, but probably will this year with conflicting work schedules…maybe not early, but later. But that’s okay, as long as we’re together!

Great garland BTW, does it last through the holidays?

It should last through the holidays, we kept it high enough on the trees to make sure the dogs couldn’t get to it!

We often have to celebrate Christmas late since my brother has alternating Christmas or New Year`s off from work. This year our family Christmas will be on Decembre 29th, in our new home. It will also be the first time EVER that our stockings will hang from a real mantel over a real woodburning fireplace. I don’t know how Santa swung it before but this year should be a snap!
