Relaxation and Research

December 8th, 2012

Mr Chiots and I have a lot of big plans for great new things for the blog, including some kind of internet TV show of sorts. We do videography as part of our business, you might remember some of those Ethel Videos I made, like the one on how to make the perfect pie crust. Here it is:

Our new show will be all about gardening, cooking, local food, and other things we find interesting. We’ve been doing research on these types of showing, gathering ideas for filming and topics.

We also have been watching all the River Cottage Series of videos (links to the seasons below). If you love gardening, cooking and local eating, you’ll love this series from the UK. Most of them are available on Amazon for a great price. There’s nothing I love more than seeing other people encouraging others to grow their own and eat local. There are many seasons, lots of great commercial free entertainment for only a few dollars! It certainly has been nice to spend a little time sitting and relaxing, even if it is research for a future job.

What kinds of topics would you be interested in seeing in a Chiot’s Run TV show?

That was super. I recently tried Martha Stewart’s can’t fail recipe. The fat was all butter. My husband didn’t like it.

I enjoy theses kinds of tips especially a brief video showing the steps.

    I would also enjoy:
    Bread baking
    Pruning
    Propagation
    Soil building
    Canning

    How exciting! A new adventure!
I’d love to see anything on gardening, including soil building, composting and vegetable gardening.
Love seeing how others are working toward self-sufficiency too.
    Best wishes!

I would like to see, like the others have mentioned, but I would like to see videos on how to graft fruit trees. This is something I would like to master and try.
I look so forward to your sharing.
    Regards

This is a fantastic idea! I learn so much from your blog and actually seeing things in action would be even more helpful.

A lot of people, for one reason or another, do container gardening. It would be great if you do occasional episodes about it.

I have a blog friend from the UK that sent me the River Cottage preserves book a few years back. She had taken a preserving class there. I have been hooked ever since, I think I have at least 10 of their books now! Some day I hope to take one of their classes as well. Good luck with all your projects and happy holidays!

I’m in NZ, and would love to see making maple syrup. I would love to go out and tap the trees, collect the syrup and boil it down. But since that is not possible here, maybe I can see you do it instead!

On a previous podcast, you mentioned that you were an efficient gardener. I’d love to hear how you are efficient, especially in growing vegetables. Also, I second the bread-baking idea. I’ve been wanting to try baking with bread starters/sour dough and have not seen a really good video on how to do it.

Love River Cottage. Have you also seen the Victorian House and Edwardian House series?
