A Night on the Town

December 15th, 2012

Mr Chiots and I don’t make it out often, we’re just not out on the town kind of people. We rarely go to movies or out to eat. About the only places we go are the bank, Post Office, local farms, and the farmers market. Yesterday however, was an exception.

We left home early to hit the farmers market, then we were off to get our passport photos and run a few other errands. Our main goal was to watch The Hobbit at the old restored Colonial Theatre in downtown Belfast. Since we were out and about for so long, we grabbed some dinner at a local restaurant.

I certainly enjoyed a grilled bacon cheese sandwich, a cup of clam chowder and some sweet potato fries. Mr Chiots went all out with fish and chips. Of course I had my trusty Real Salt in my purse as I always do!

We also spent some time walking around the downtown area, picked up a holiday puzzle at the game shop, looked at tons of yarn in the yarn shop and dreamed about future sewing projects at the fabric store.

Then we were off to the movies. No popcorn and soda for me, I stowed a bar of good chocolate in my purse which we enjoyed during the show. We had a great time. That’s one of the good things about not getting out much, when you do it’s really a treat.

What’s your idea of a nice “night out”?

Mmmm, we’re like yourself..hardly ever go out. Can’t think of a nice night out…i just like being home when the sun sets. Lunch out or picnics are good, or open garden visits or drives during the day….but I feel the crazies come out at night. Go out for meals once or twice a year at night…but not my choice.

A nice night out is visiting with friends. However, we prefer to stay home. We buy Real Salt in bulk at the health food store. First discoveredit on a road trip through Utah.

Like yours–movie, food, leisurely errands–only by myself. I would say with my husband, but he would rather clean out our septic system than sit through most movies in a theater.

He’d probably make an exception for “The Hobbit,” though. What’d you think of it?

We’re not huge Night Out folks either but we enjoy going to blues concerts every month or two.. Its usually very laid back and a nice evening.. And then we (mostly I) get together with coworker friends for a drink or two occasionally as we did last night. Even though half of us were laid off in Nov, we had an Old Picker Gang Christmas party Good times, great people. We were home by 9:15. ;)

A night out? Hmmmmmm. I don’t do that much but when I do, it’s usually a movie. Here in Nebraska the current release movies are upward of $13.00 during prime time. A visit to the snack bar and the bill is $25.00 a person. I guess I’m just too cheap. I wait until the movie I really want to see on the big screen gets to the theatre that reduces the price to $2.00. Other choices are wait a little longer and hit the Red Box for $1.00.

No night out here, but my “night in” is home popped pop corn, my home made wine, cheese, crackers, and a local butcher’s smoked sausage starring on the crackers, and a dvd or on demand movie. Bliss to me, no crowds, drunks druggys and like N Dave mentioned, no high priced snacks or tickets, which are $13 in my small town and the same price for pop and snacks also. No way.

Hi Suzy! We like to go to the local restaurants, or…as boring as this sounds…grocery shopping without the kiddo! As a side note…I went to look for Taza Chocolate in your “food” section of your Amazon Store and didn’t find it. We’re in the market for a new organic chocolate. I think we’ll try it. I’ll order it thru the /support option. Love your posts. Looking forward to the next.

Night out… for us its typically a morning out! A trip to the farmer’s market, a morning matinee (new releases are $4.50 at the matinee & we have a friend who gives us the caps off her coke bottles which we turn in for free movie coupons)… afterwards maybe shared coffee from a local coffee shop. We do this two to three times a year…. :)

We go out so infrequently at night that our son marvels at the lights he sees on buildings and streets.
We do visit neighborhoods this time of year to see the holiday lights. PJ’s, hot chocolate and a warm blanket and we’re off. (We have to wait for a cold night to do this, as it’s often still in the 70’s in December.) A treat indeed!

Not many nights out around these parts–what you described sounds perfect, except I’d replace the movie with a visit to the bookstore!

We saw The Hobbit last night, too. It was a family affair – we’ve been reading the book aloud in the evenings just before bedtime and the kids REALLY wanted to see it. Is it awful that I snuck homemade popcorn with REAL butter and REAL salt into the theater? I can’t imagine eating the movie theater popcorn with fake butter (which cost$ an arm and a leg!) or a watching good, long movie without popcorn. :) A night out once in a while is a good, good thing. I’m glad you enjoyed your evening, too.
