The Sweet Angel Chimes

December 22nd, 2012

The sounds of angle chimes ring through my Christmas memories. When I was a little girl, we always had Swedish Angel Chimes playing in the background at Christmas. I don’t remember how many nights we lit them during the holiday season, but we probably went through a ton of candles each year. The funny thing, there’s nothing super special about these chimes, they’re actually kind of cheap; yet somehow they’re magical, even now.

A few years ago, my mom gave my sister and I each a set for Christmas, we were both delighted. That may have been the same year my dad got a nice wooden Christmas pyramid, which is also a hit with our nieces & nephew.

Mr Chiots and I have been lighting our little set of angel chimes in the evenings. The ringing of the bells goes perfectly with the Christmas music in the background. I should buy an extra set to keep in my Christmas box in case this one breaks. They still sell them over on Amazon and probably other places on the internet. Someday, I’ll buy a wooden pyramid like my dad’s, but there will always be a set of these little golden angle chimes ringing here at Chiot’s Run.

Is there something like this that you remember from Christmases long ago?

It’s the reflection of candle glow or Christmas lights that make things magical. I have fond memories of bubble lights on the tree.

I grew up with the angel chimes too. I have been wanting to get my husband a beautiful wooden one from a local shop that carries them and other Scandinavian goods. Maybe next year.

Angel Chimes were in the Christmases of my youth too :) I think they’re still in my Mom’s Christmas things, I may go in search of them today and put them up.

I totally agree there’s something magical about them! They’re one of the first things I remember when I think back and remember :)

I will have to ask my mom about them. Thanks for bringing back that memory for me. It was magical and I remember it vividly now that you have nudged me!

How I loved the angel chimes in my youth! They were heavier brass back then. The angel chimes are made very thin these days, but the sound they make and the way they look is still magical. I also remember bubble lights on the Christmas tree and heavy, leaded tinsel. It was wonderful. Thank you for this reminder. I must get another set of angel chimes!

They were much heavier back then, but at least they’re still as magical even though they are kind of chintzy now.
