Bacon in the New Year

January 1st, 2013

Happy New Year! Last night we celebrated as usual with a themed party with friends. Everyone came over to our place for a night of good food, fun games and ringing in the new year. Our theme was BACON, you can really go wrong with that. All the food contained bacon in some form. I was in charge of the main dish, so I made homemade pizza topped with horseradish cream cheese (instead of the tomato sauce), roast beef, bacon, caramelized onions, and cheese. There was also a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette, bacon, walnuts and dried cranberries. For dessert there was maple ice cream with candied bacon pieces on top.

I wrote this post before everyone arrived so I don’t have any photos of what everyone else brought. But I know bacon wrapped shrimp, bacon wrapped steak, bacon wrapped dates, bacon ranch dip with veggies and a few other bacon items were on the list. It’s always fun to have a theme for a party (at least I think so). Of course we also had champagne and sparkling pomegranate juice to toast at midnight (no bacon champagne could be found).

How did you celebrate the New Year arriving?

We had a lovely, peaceful New Year’s Eve, celebrated with friends over dinner (herb-crusted, stuffed pork tenderloin, smashed oven potatoes and cole slaw). They brought the appetizer (baked brie and apricots in phyllo) and dessert (apple crisp and homemade vanilla ice cream). We played Rummikub until the final minutes of the old year, and toasted the New Year with Martinelli’s sparkling apple cider.

Wishing you and yours a healthy, happy, prosperous, and blessed 2013!

What a cool theme for a party! Bacon!

We celebrated the New Year by being together as a family. We had crock pot chili for dinner. The boys worked on models and I sat near them and looked thru seed catalogs.

We gathered around a great fire and when it had burned out we put in a giant cast iron duch oven of beans with maple syrup, molasses, and lots of bacon in to the fire pit. We covered it with dirt and went to bed. The beans should be done around lunch time today. If you like beans it’s a great way to slow cook them.

We had a very quiet evening at home last night and enjoyed it immensely. Today I am cooking a special meal for New Years Day ~ Beef Burgundy. I got a new crockpot and cookbook for Christmas and the house smells good already just putting it all together…and YES, it does have “bacon” in it too! Love the stuff. I agree with Ms. Tweetley, you are very inspiring throughout the year. Love your Christmas card, also inspiring ~ thanks. Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy 2013.

We bring in the Scottish new year at 4pm Pacific. My mother is from Scotland and this is a tradition we’ve always kept. BBQed pork, BBQed twice baked potatoes, salad, fried apple pies.

I did laundry, cleaned off my dresser, and dusted our filthy bedroom. We were asleep by 9:30 p.m.

And that’s New Year’s Eve for parents of small children. Or, to be honest, for me in any year. Not much for New Year’s Eve ever, I guess.

…Gosh, every time I hear the word, “bacon” I can’t help but think of that dog treat commercial where the dog runs around the house yelling, “BAAA-CON!” “Where’s the bacon?!”, “Bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon!”, There it is! Gimme some bacon!”, “I’d get it myself but I don’t have any thumbs!”…hee, hee,HEE! :oD

…It sounds like you all rang in the New Year right! And what a great theme too. We didn’t do anything. I read a book while my husband watched television, then I went to bed at 10:30 and my husband stayed up and watched some old westerns.

…Here’s wishing you both a very Happy New Year filled with love, laughter, prosperity & good health! :o)

    …Blessings to you & yours.

Happy New Year to you and Mr. Chiot’s! It all sounds yummy! I really hope you post your pizza recipe :) We had a quiet evening in with our furbabies, lemon drop martinis, sausage stuffed mushrooms (B’s favorite), and other snacks!

Happy New Year! We just arrived home from Idaho on NYE. It was so good to see the critters after a week away. We keep holidays simple, so my hubs, daughter, and i can spend time together, especially when we’ve been away with the family-at-large.

We played a little, my daughter is working on her videography skills, i cleaned up the flower beds. Then we made an Asian inspired feast of chicken satay, pad thai, and oatmeal ginger shortbread. We were in bed by 9. :(

The neighbours the next farm over had fireworks going all evening, so we didn’t feel the need to stay up and watch the fireworks at the Space Needle.

Hope your year is another prosperous one!
    Fondly,

Yes, the bacon theme for party sounded good.
Every New Year, we have a light dinner, then have goodies, like little ham, egg, spinach pies, cheese platter, dips, chocolate, and other finger food. Have a new DVD that none of us have seen before…..one that’s to all our tastes……..makes the midnight hour come quickly…especially when we are not used to staying upto midnight, then go outside with heaps of sparklers and dance around with them…giggling and just being silly and wishing each other a happy and healthy year to come. We are quiet as not to disturb neighbours too. Sounds simple, but we’ve done this for years and it wouldn’t be New Year if we didn’t. Then come in for a cuppa before bed. Even makes me smile thinking about it.

Oops, I meant rUmaki not rAmaki…:) we usually marinate ours (the chicken livers) before wrapping, in a little soy sauce marinade…I can e-mail you the recipe if you’d like! They are soooo good!!
