Quote of the Day: Maria Augusta Trapp
One of the greatest things in human life is the ability to make plans. Even if they never come true-the joy of anticipation is irrevocably ours. That way one can live many more thank just one life.
Maria Augusta Trapp in The Story of the Trapp Family Singers
Mr Chiots and I always find ourselves with long lists of things we plan on doing, especially when it comes to travel. We will someday drive to the west coast and Alaska, someday we’ll find ourselves on that long flight to Hawaii. We have plans to visit all the National Parks. None of these will happen this year, we’re simply too busy to take that much time off. We decided that our tiny trailer had to make a voyage this summer, even if it’s only somewhere close by.
Where will we go? We’re thinking Prince Edward Island. It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. We haven’t nailed down a time to go, probably later in the summer when we’ve got everything to a state where we can be away for a few days. It’s been such a long and crazy year, I can’t wait to go camp somewhere and have some time to relax!
Do you have any great trips near or far planned for this summer?

I would love to see Prince Edward Island some day. I grew up on the Anne of Green Gables stories. As for us, we’re taking a two week road trip this May driving from Virginia up to Maine (if we make it that far.) We’re planning on visiting Philadelphia, Lancaster and Boston for sure. The rest of the trip is going to be determined by what we feel like seeing and/or visiting as we drive. Can’t wait!

We’re thinking about driving to Mount Rushmore. We drove to Maine last year and our girls enjoyed stopping along the way. I think it will be a fun trip for them to see Rushmore. :-)

We don’t have our summer plans nailed down yet but I would love to finish the Long Trail in Maine. The AT follows part of the trail so we’ve done that part. But then again I’d love to see somewhere else knew.
PEI is also on my list…because of Anne of course. ;)

Can’t afford time or money to be away. No one to care for the garden and animals so home it will be. Haven’t had a vacation since 2004 so guess I’ll survive longer. Eating is more important than a vacation and if gone weeds would take over no matter what I do. Hope you have a good time.

Several years ago we went to PEI, then up to Cape Breton Island. PEI was nice though surprisingly busy, but Cape Breton was WONDERFUL! Beautiful scenery, friendly people (and not too many of them!), warm waters… We’d go back in a minute. Another fairly close place I’d like to go but haven’t is Grand Manan Island (on the Canada/US border). It’s supposed to be spectacular. You also might like Cobscook Bay State Park, or Lubec, both up in the eastern part of the state. Not too long a drive and very pretty. And there is always Baxter State Park – it’s beautiful.

Hopefully lots of time at the lake with the kids while our house is being built. It would be great if we can fit in a quick trip to Newfoundland, but it will be last minute if it happens. I hope you love PEI; I’ve never been there but I also grew up reading Anne of Green Gables and it’s on my list!

I highly recommend Cheticamp, in Nova Scotia. We drove there from Chicago, one of my most favorite trips ever :)

I agree with Sarah, Cheticamp is beautiful. We even have a painting of Cheticamp hanging on the wall in our living room!

We olan to travel out west to Jackson Hole Wyoming. Never been to PEI but, our neighbors have a home there and have spent the whole summer there for the last 50 years! What about Acadia in your tiny trailer?

PEI is a beautiful place – you’ll love it. We’ve been wanting to go to Alaska since our second daughter was born.
This year we’re “just”visiting relatives – buit in several states! It will be fun to travel back and forth.

I’m hoping to go back to South Africa later on this autumn; be my first break from home since 2004.

I have always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island too. I don’t think we’ll be taking any significant trips this year. Isabella is going to start taking violin, and I’m hoping to pay for some of Isaac’s therapy out of pocket, so I guess that trumps a vacation.

We’re still trying to decide. PEI, Nova Scotia, or Niagara Falls are on the list so far. Two summers ago, we went camping by the ocean near you, just outside Belfast, Maine. That was lots of fun!

I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than at home. A good book can take my imagination to places I’ve never been.

We haven’t vacationed in years because we do not have anyone to take care of our animals/garden, etc. Oh well, it is the life we have chosen to live.
Have fun where ever you go!

PEI! I’m so jealous. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a little girl first reading the Anne of Green Gables books. :-) What a lovely idea.

Have you been to Campobello island? Worth the trip! Summer home of Franklin Roosevelt is not only beautiful, but fascinating!
