Quote of the Day: Joe Eck & Wayne Winterrowd
Having time at one’s own command is perhaps the greatest luxury any human being can enjoy. Most people wait for it until the end of their working lives; too often, then, the special savor of it is brief or already lost entirely.
Joe Eck & Wayne Winterrowd in Living Seasonally: The Kitchen Garden and the Table at North Hill
I was thinking about this quote earlier this week as I took a few days of much needed vacation. In fact, it was so much of a vacation, I didn’t even check my e-mail for 2 entire days. This never happens, even when I’m traveling on vacation.
What did I do with my days of vacation? I spent time with a friend, we drove to a few lighthouses nearby and we took a day trip to to Acadia National Park.
After a very hectic and busy spring, a few days of time away were very nice. Too bad it couldn’t have been more, I opened my e-mail yesterday to find many pressing things that needed added to my to-do list for this coming week.
What would you do if you had time at your own command?

Sleep, mostly. A cliche for parents, but it’s a cliche for a reason.

I have absolutely no idea how to answer your question today. The images are beautiful. I have long wanted to visit Maine.

Don’t have any so can’t answer. Haven’t had a vacation since 2004 so have forgotten what it’s like. I got away last summer to my sis’ to help with a grad. party, but I don’t count that. Spring, summer, and fall is harvest season if we wish to eat so that’s always there to keep me busy.

Visit Maine again for a week and stand exactly where you stood when taking these photos. Joanne and I spent 10 days in the fall every year for 13 years not three miles from all of the locations in the photos. We have hundreds if not thousands of the same photographs.
NO radio or tv, just 10 days of enjoying each other’s company with lobsters, clams, and gin and tonics. Thanks for the surprise visit to our favorite place.
p.s. For a great meal go to Primo in Rockland. Chef Melissa Kelly and her organic gardens for the restaurant.

Many people have recommended that restaurant to us, perhaps we can celebrate our 15 year anniversary there.
