A Walk in the Woods
Last night we played hooky from our chores. We decided a hike was a better way to spend our evening. The evening was spent gathering sumac seed heads to make lemonade and mushrooms to identify in order to practice what we learned in class on Sunday.
It was an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours. There really is nothing better than being inspired by the natural world. There’s so much color and beauty right before our eyes, we can sometimes forget if we don’t get out to see it. Now that the mosquito population is waning, we hope to spend a lot more time out in the woods discovering what we have. I think the resident Chiots enjoyed herself as much as we did. Now that we’ve found an all natural pain killer for her, she’s back to enjoying longer hikes once again.
When was the last time you went on a hike?

Two weeks ago, when coerced by my husband and son. I am not a hiker by choice. Too bad, because there are SO many hikes in my future, what with these two outdoors-loving boys and their father to entertain.
I’m hoping the day will come when I can send them off for man-time and stay home to work in my garden. Maybe someday. Not yet, though.

Last weekend we drove out to Stowe, Vermont to hike Mt. Mansfield. It was a beautiful day and it was interesting to note all the different plants and trees that grow just two states over!

With all the visitors here on MDI, I stay pretty much on my own 12 acres but will begin hiking again soon.
You’ve probably noticed the sign for Full Circle Veterinary Clinic in Belfast. I’ve used Dr. Herzig quite a bit in the last 3 years. He is really good for chiro, acupuncture, and cold laser as well as supplements etc.

YES, he’s actually the vet we take our pets to now.

I love Lee. My male GSD had a swelling between a couple of vertebrae which had him off his feet. Lee’s treatments had him on his feet and running for two years before Hemangiosarcoma took him last winter.

Where did you go hiking? Around your house?

Yep, just around our own property.

How much do you give your Chiot? We have a golden who is 11 years old, and she has been having some joint pain in her hips. We would love an alternative to the pain meds prescribed to her as they cause her to have an upset stomach and not eat… :(
Thanks! Your blog is set as my homepage when I open Safari. I find that it is a great way to start my day!

We give her two pills twice a day 45 minutes before her meals, she weighs around 65-70 lbs. She also gets glucosamine twice a day.

I’m planning to get out and stretch my legs at a state forest this weekend. I guess the last decent hike I did was in July on vacation in Arkansas at the Petit Jean State Park.

I’m fortunate to be out in nature every day. But it’s been way too long since I just went on a walk just for the sake of hiking.
I envy your mushroom identification class. We have what we think are golden chanterelles growing here, but need some help making a positive identification.

Last month’s full moon I took a late evening walk with my god-daughter. It was a lovely walk and we had fun. i made green mango salad……….a snack I grew up eating each mango season. I intend to do much more hiking before the rainny season is in full swing here.
