There are so many things in my life that fit this, in general, I like to do things myself. I value the process along with the final product, and thus most things are of value to me.
Garden fresh vegetables are definitely well worth the effort in my book. What I don’t grow myself I’m thankful to be able to purchase from farmers who do care and go to the trouble to grow the right way.
What are some things you do for yourself that you feel are worth the extra effort?
Growing and preserving fruit and vegetables, making breads and doughs, and knitting for loved ones are things from which I derive equal pleasure from the process and the results, and the sharing, in the end.
It is more effort for sure, but the rewards are greater, and the more one grows or makes oneself, the more appreciative and mindful one becomes.
I don’t think I have it in me to raise and butcher my meats, not yet, anyway, but I see what my farmer friends put into each animal we buy from them, and that makes a difference also in how we see our meats. Following your efforts also makes us more aware.
It is all getting us here to a more mindful existence, and makes the garden of our life more abundant. (A lovely expression, thank you, Joe and Wayne, and Susy)

It’s a hillbilly tomato, and yes poblanos.

I grow my vegetables and preserve them. I’m so proud when I sit down to a meal where most elements were homegrown, including herbs. I know my friends must be tired of hearing it but I never tire of saying it…”those came from my garden”.
