Peanut Butter?

December 14th, 2013

Dexter is such a fun cat, he’s adventurous in every way, even in his diet. I know Dexter will eat just about anything I give him, our other cats are super picky. One day I was eating a spoonful of peanut butter and he decided he wanted a taste.

I didn’t let him taste it until I was just about finished, he polished off the rest on my spoon. Now, whenever he smells peanut butter he makes a pest of himself until he gets some. He’s just about as bad with pumpkin pie, which he also loves.

Do you have any pets that eat crazy things?

I used to have a cat that would beg for lettuce and another who loved cantaloupe.

We had a cat that would go to great extremes to get olives. I found him in the middle of the dining room table during an anniversary party for my parents, on his way to the olives. I think I broke the speed of sound moving him from the table to the basement.

We have a cat who loves peanut butter too. He seems to like anything creamy (like yogurt), whereas the other cat is only interested in meat.

Oatmeal! One of my cats begs for my oatmeal bowl, he licks it clean when I’m done with breakfast. I keep trying to tell him that I don’t put meat in my oatmeal, but he is unconvinced.

Our cats like to just lick everything that they can. However if you eat ice cream from a coffee mug, one of our cats will go after you until you let her get a taste off the spoon with some sprinkles. If you refused to share, she manages to shove her paw right in the mug.

Susy, my wife was really the inside animal person. Over the 23 years we were married, several dogs and one cat made into our household. The last dog we had was the best and lived the longest. It was a mix between a Poodle and Pekinese. It had such a mellow temperament with the Poodle nose and the Pekinese curly tail. Anyway every holiday, she would make a plate of food just like the rest of us for him to eat. It had turkey, sweet potatoes, mash potatoes, gravy, an cranberry sauce. You would thought we starved the poor creature. He would bury his face in the plate and not come out until it was all gone and the plate licked clean.

    Have a great cat day.

Our English Mastiff thinks tomatoes and bananas are the best treat. The waterworks of saliva when he sees me coming in with a harvest of tomatoes is unreal. (Thank god he hasn’t figured out how to “harvest” himself! He would destroy the garden!) I make pancakes every Sunday and he knows the whole process and when he gets his one pancake. There was a bit of a panic when I changed up the order of the routine one Sunday. He tried to “help” by standing really close and “supervise” by resting his chin on the counter next to the stove to watch and make sure I was doing it right. Then there was a little pouting when I made him go to his bed in the kitchen to wait. Now I am careful to keep things in the same order so we don’t have a rebellion.

Our cat Musetto just loved bananas, she would come from anywhere if we started to peel one. she could get quite a lot down by just licking with her raspy cat tongue… she was a love!
Gone 25 years now, she is still on our mind everytime we eat a banana.

Have you ever tried giving your cat an olive? Every cat over ever had has loved olives. They treat the olives almost like catnip. They’ll chew them a bit and then roll on them.

My cat goes crazy for olives… she’ll roll around on the floor where an olive fell earlier in the day.

Both our golden and beagle love peanut butter in their kongs. When I make my husband’s salad they can’t wait for the core of the lettuce and think broccoli stalks are a real treat. They love popcorn too.

My chihuahua loves cleaning our coffee cups, I even have a photo of him in a ceramic Starbucks mug just to get the drop I left in the bottom for him.

That’s so funny, because you reminded me of my childhood friend’s family from Mexico. Chewy, their chihuahua, was given coffee with cream and bologna every morning for breakfast.

Our indoor cat loves hot beverages. Especially if the person drinking them is allergic to cats. As soon as you put your mug down, she thinks that blueberry rooibos tea was made just for her. :). Our outdoor cat will beg for the waffles and bread we feed to the ducks. Since she was a feral cat, she would probably eat just about anything. :)

One of our Great Danes loved cruciferous vegetables of any kind and would stand at my elbow anytime I was cutting or chopping. She was very polite and would not touch the counter top (although she could easily rest her chin on it) but there was always a puddle of drool on the floor until I took pity on her and put some bits into her food dish.

My dog Molly will eat ANYTHING! The poor chickens don’t get as many scraps as they would like because Molly stands by the counter watching everything that I cut up and waiting for her piece(s) of it. Carrot or celery ends, the bruised part of bananas, apple cores, cheese rinds… she loves it all!

My first dog – a Basset Hound called Tessa – loved Oranges.

In the 70’s and 80’s in Germany, we had a lot of oranges in winter, and each time I sat there peeling, she would sit in front of me drooling.

So I’d parcel out individual wedges to my Mom, Dad, my brother, Tessa and then myself… it was too funny!

But then, she would eat really anything. A papermache hat during Carnival, 30 hard boiled and decorated Easter eggs – shells and all, yoghurt, an entire Black Forest Gateau, 3 whole smoked mackerels, 3/4 of a Rumbomb cake (bisquit, buttercream filling with lots of 80% rum, chocolate frosting) – which meant she fell down the 3 steps into the garden because she was drunk, you get the drift… if she could get her long snout into it, she would scarf it up.

    But Oranges were her favourite!

Rex, my big dog, loves fruit. I pick apricots and peel them off the pit for him, and he forages for strawberries. He accompanies me as I pick tomatoes – he can’t get to them himself because of the cages. he will also pull apples off the trees to eat.

My dog eats everything except very vinegary things. She eats raw rutabaga, paw paws from the tree, and especially anything the children drop on the floor, which is pretty much anything. Dogs are a crucial cleaning service if you have little kids.

LOL, my cat loves caramel too! I remember last year I was making a batch of Caramel Apple Butter and was opening Kraft Caramels and putting them in a bowl to add to the apple butter. My kitty jumped up on the table, grabbed one of those caramels, and took off like a thief before I could bat an eyelash.

Now, every time I break out the caramels for apple butter he wails until I give him a small piece.

Our cat loved (LOVED) tomatoes and red bell peppers. She was also quite keen on canned green beans, romaine lettuce, and strawberries (never mind the usual milk, ice cream, etc.). She also wouldn’t eat meat unless it had been seasoned. Weirdo.
