It Snowed….
We’ve had a good deal of snow this week, Mr Chiots and I are happy. We love winter and we LOVE the snow. The snow makes everything lighter and brighter, it inspires me to grab my camera and head outside, inspiration to take pictures has been lacking around here lately. Here are some lovely images from our sunny snowy afternoon yesterday.
Over the past week we’ve received 16″-18″ of snow! Of course the snow brings with it much work, but it’s work we’re thankful for. Sometimes in the winter you need a little extra motivation to get outside and get moving. Plowing and shoveling are good for the body.
What inspires you to get outside this time of year?

My kids. They are emphatically Not Fun if they’re inside all day. So come rain or snow or dark of night, we’re out.
Also my husband, who thinks snowshoeing in 20-degree weather with two small children is the best way to celebrate his birthday. Those little apples didn’t fall far from the paternal tree, obviously.

Our dogs and the camera.
Maggie and Mae just love the snow, they like to tunnel with their snouts, and I am still trying to capture the glittering effect of the new snow.
We got over a foot here in NH, and more to come.
We are so happy to have a proper white Christmas!

Hiking and snowshoeing draw me outside in the winter. It’s still tough to get motivated to bundle up and head out, but once I’m outside, there is nowhere else I would rather be.. I need to start getting out on weekdays after work instead of just saving it for the weekends. I wish it didn’t get dark at 4:30. Beautiful snow shots!!

cutting firewood is what we do this time of year here in the midwest. We’ve had 8″ so far which has been surprising but I’ll take it. Love the old truck!

Getting Wood from the wood pile and taking care of the chickens and ducks always gets me out 1st thing in the morning and last thing at night. I am looking foward to longer days so that I no longer have to do the chores in the dark.
Sledding, Jack Jumping and Snowshoeing with the kids will also get me outside. It is nice when the kids burn off a bunch of energy in the afternoon.

I’m a wimp to cold weather. At least being where I live in SE Texas we get some nice, mild days such as the last few, where temperatures are in the 70s and I can get outside more. I’ll do some stuff outside when it is colder, of course, but it isn’t nearly as pleasant for me. It probably has to do with the problem that I have a limited winter wardrobe from live in S. Florida and refuse to buy a lot of winter clothes.

I had a lovely cross-country ski yesterday with our 10″ of snow here in New Hampshire. I love it when there is enough snow to get out and enjoy the woods this way.

Susy, the only thing that gets me outside in the Winter is when Bradley wants to go sledding down the school yard hill. His school has one of the best hills in the city to use for sledding. So there we go old Gramps and young lad whizzing down the hill on a toboggan. This year a new sled will be under the tree for our pleasure. I’m not sure if having a nine year old live with me keeps me young but I do young things. Does that count. Of course I never used to have to take Advil and Alieve after an afternoon of sledding. :0)
Have a great outdoor activities day.

You and Brian are “snow” lucky! They keep predicting snow for the Seattle area, but we keep waking to the ol’ goose egg.
Of course there are the animal chores and the hauling wood for heat that get us outside regularly now, but you asked what inspires us to get outside. That would have to be the greenhouses. They are like a spring oasis this time of year, compared to hanging outside. You can still dig in the dirt, harvest root veggies, pull weeds even. Just being able to do things like that while the rest of the world is frozen outside is nothing short of a miracle on these cold, dark, days in Seattle.
Make a snowman for us. :)

This is the only time of year I enjoy being outside here. It’s nice and chilly, it’s dry (well, most days) and it’s possible to walk a few miles without being overheated, drenched in sweat and miserable. I’m definitely a big fan of winter!

Unless it’s pouring rain (sadly, not likely and we’re really worried) I am outside as much as I can be from sunup to sundown. We had several weeks of below-freeze at night, but the day times were plenty comfy for collecting leaves for mulch, weeding the veggie beds and building frost covers. Back in November I collected the nuts and produce for holiday baking and gift-giving so I’m spending lots of time in a steamy kitchen making cookies, jellies and marmalade.

I enjoy snowshoeing with my dogs through the woods that surround me. We have about 2 feet on the ground, the last storm was coastal, and that covers up most of the things that would snag and put me on my face. I don’t mind snowblowing and shoveling especially when it is this light fluffy stuff.
I also enjoy taking care of the goats and chickens in the late afternoon/early evening. It feels good to make sure they have food, water and bedding before I go in for the night.

Here in the PNW we, finally, woke up to snow this morning. It is beautiful and for the moment, the brown and gray of winter is covered in a bright white blanket, and its extra quiet. My husband is much more of an outdoor person than I am, he is one of the reasons I get outside this time of year. Taking a walk in the fresh fallen snow is perfect for my winter attitude too. Our dog loves the snow and he is good encouragment as well. Thanks for sharing you snowy day photos.

I could do with some snow. It’s 99 degrees here and that’s inside out of the sun. The computer keeps shutting down presumably because it’s overheating. Hate to think what is outside.
