Friday Favorite: Great Companies

December 20th, 2013

I love doing business with great companies, the kind you know you can expect service from in the future should a product be defective or wear out before it should.  L.L. Bean is one of those companies.  I purchased these lovely knee high shearling lined boots about a year ago.  I wore them for a few months and then they were retired for the summer.

When I went to put them on yesterday the zipper broke – ACK.  I contacted L.L. Bean and they’re going to send me a new pair – YAY.

This is why I purchased these boots instead of other options out there. My parents have been buying from this L.L. Bean since I was a little kid and they’ve always stood behind their products.

Do you have any great companies that you love doing business with?

There is no one quite like LL Bean when it comes to standing by their products. They gave me credit for a slip cover that pilled after one wash, no argument at all. I have to replace a sofa, and I will buy it from them when the time comes. We look there first for the basics, except for wool tops, jackets, vests, sweaters which we buy mostly from Ibex.

The Ibex company is quite good as well, they will exchange anytime, but I have not had to return anything. They make clothing in Vermont exclusively from wool fabrics made for them, and winter in NH has been warm and woozy since we discovered them quite a few years ago.
The workmanship is amazing, and the service top notch, I can see you and Brian both enjoying their products.

We LOVE Ibex as well, I have a few pairs of their wool/leather gloves and Mr Chiots has a few pieces of their wool clothing as well.

We buy a lot of stuff from L.L. Bean, too. It’s one of the few places I’ve been able to find long underwear in a two-year-old’s size.

Maybe not many people live a lifestyle in which long underwear is necessary for a two-year-old, but for those of us who do, L.L. Bean has it covered.

I’ll jump on the L.L. Bean bandwagon too – I buy my denim jeans from them, they’re a fantastic fit and very sturdy, not the flimsy thin jeans that everyone else sells. They wear like iron, as well.

LOVE LL.Bean! I STILL have/wear a River Driver shirt and a winter coat from almost 20 years ago (!!!) and they’re in excellent condition. Talk about being made to last! I do TONS of Xmas shopping with them for my husband every year. Totally agree that they are an exceptional company. Cheers to you and yours!

Duluth Trading and in my part of the country, Carhart work wear. I have a Carhart jacket and overalls that are 30 yrs old and still in great shape, though worn.

Love LLBean. I have had the same backpack from them since I was in third grade (I’m 33 now). I ripped it about ten years ago, along a seam, and they repaired it and shipped it back. Come to think of it, my four year old is still carrying my first grade backpack to preschool. Their backpacks are expensive but they wear like iron.

I recently purchased a fleece lined robe from L.L. Bean. Realized there are not enough “winter” days here in Texas to warrant such a warm/hot robe. Bean made it so easy to return.

We buy probably 75% of our clothing from LL Bean (and most of the rest from second hand stores). Bean’s is the greatest, though they definitely have a problem with zippers – none of their zippers ever last! I can’t tell you how many jackets we’ve had to return with broken zippers. At least we know that when one of them fails, they’ll replace it.

I look for and buy products in the LL Bean line through vintage and second hands stores. The hold up marvelously…

Chiming in for LLBean; I’ve had my winter coat from them for twenty years and it’s as good as new (although, the zipper is starting to stick). My backpack is also over twenty years old with heavy use; replaced once for a faulty zipper. My husband has a pair of their slippers that has split at the seam; he did wear them for four years before this happened, but we’ve been out-of-country for four additional years when they weren’t being worn, so I feel sheepish wanting to return them–still, it appears other people have had this same problem, and my father had the same slippers for over thirty years before they wore too thin to be serviceable! So perhaps I should?
