Jack Frost
Jack Frost visited my windows the night before last and left this beautiful pattern, it’s unlike any window frost I’ve ever seen. It’s simply stunning!
The super cold weather we’ve been having has been keeping us on our toes, closing blinds at night trying to keep the heat in and the cold outside where it belongs. The other night it was -9 when we were arriving back at home from being out – BRRRR – that’s a little chilly. No doubt some of you see these temps all the time.
What’s the coldest it gets in your area of the country?

That is absolutely stunning! Mother Nature sure has some tricks up her sleeve.
We’re lucky if we hit the 50’s in the winter on any regular basis.
Stay toasty!

Wow, the photos are amazing! We don’t get too cold here, maybe 0 Celsius overnight in winter, it’s summer at the moment and the weather has been mild although it was 40 Celsius the other day! The opposite to your weather.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that pattern before, either, and we get a LOT of ice in the winter. Kinda looks like droplets of rain that got blown across the window by the wind. A little bit of snow on the ground this morning here in northeastern Oklahoma.

I think it is suppose to go down to 3 degrees today. Tomorrow it is going to be in the negative numbers – that is if the weather reports are accurate. I love the cold weather, as long as I don’t have to go outside for a extended period of time.

I love window frost, it’s so beautiful. A few years ago we replaced most of our windows and that first winter I missed the frost on the windows (only for a little while though, I was glad for the extra warmth and less drafts). We still have the mudroom door and windows that get frosty so not all is lost :). Here in VT, the HIGH for tomorrow is -2!

I live in southeast Wisconsin and the temps have been bitter lately. It’s been snowing nonstop for three days, and earlier this week it was -7 when I woke up. The worst was -12 with the windchill the other day.

Beautiful window frost. Would love to know why it formed in that pattern. On MDI, it is currently -1 which is fairly chilly for here but I’ve seen -20 a number of times in my 43 years of living here and -10 or so isn’t super uncommon in January. Once the bays and coves freeze negating the warming from the ocean, we can get the really cold temps.

Oh those are beautiful! Has it been windy? The patterns look like they could be caused by wind! Either way, stunning!
I used to live in New Jersey, so cold temps aren’t anything new. I recently moved to California! [Near Sacramento, so inland…] And the coolest at night is in the 30s… It’s so bizarre! Hehe…

I want to frame that window….just beautiful!

Very unusual looking frost. Beautiful. It is 15 below in northern Wisconsin. Monday our high will be 12 below. Not good weather to walk the pups. I have to be careful with them. Burrrrr.

So beautiful! God’s design never ceases to amaze me…

So pretty! I am glad you were able to get such nice photos of it. It was -25 this morning when I got in my car. It’s been such a cold winter this year.

Stunning! What glorious images to celebrate the new year.
I’m about 200 miles south of Donna A in the middle of California. During my 30 years in this area the lowest I’ve seen was 22 Fahrenheit but the wind machines to protect the citrus have been running every night so we’ve been below freezing overnight for several weeks. Plenty cold enough for my bones and the Great Danes venture out only long enough for necessaries then resume their places on the couches and in Chris’s recliner.

Beautiful frost images!
We are visiting family in Northern MN for the holidays; we were supposed to leave for New England this morning, but the -35 had other plans for us! We’re enjoying a few extra hours together and hoping the car will start when it warms up to -10 or so.

That window frost reminds me of fan corral…Isn’t it amazing how some things in nature, although worlds apart from each other have an uncanny resemblance to one another. Like patterns in a pine cone can look very much like bird’s feathers. And not just visual…the call of a loon and a wolf’s howl have almost the exact same tone or pitch…it’s actually been measured. Ok, way off topic here….we might get down in the low 30’s but not too often. Winter temps are usually in the 40’s…that probably sounds balmy to you right now! :)

That’s beautiful, Susy! You are obviously such a great gardener that you can even grow beautiful window frost! :)
The coldest it gets here in New Orleans is in the mid-20’s, and that’s once every few years. Our usual lowest is in the low 30’s, and that’s just a few days per winter – we spend a lot more time with lows in the 40’s. Today it’s 55.

You cracked me up with that first sentence!

Wow, I saw tiny bits of window frost when I lived in Michigan, but never anything this intricate or beautiful. Almost like ferns or grains. Did these only appear on one side of the house or all of them?
to Valerie's comment
Just one side of the house, the southern side, overnight. I’m guessing the warm air escaping from the window did it.

That is amazing looking frost! So cool.

Isn’t Mother Nature amazing? I think we get down into the 20’s and teens but not really much lower than that. Stay warm!

Beauty is everywhere and you’ve definitely captured it! I find as I get older I pay more attention to little things like this. Stunning pictures Susy! Monday we have a forecast of negative 3 for the high and negative 16 here in central illinois. Stay warm! How’s all the furbabies doing ( plus the fowl)
to amy svob's comment
All the feathered and furred creatures seem to be doing OK with this cold weather. The chickens and ducks get a warm meal around 3 pm to keep them warm throughout the night. The garage cat has made herself a super warm bed (we provide her with a warming mat she refuses to use it).

It was -12 this morning on my walk….colder air is coming to Minnesota: Monday’s high is supposed to be -15. And we are in the Twin Cities, farther north will be air temps of 30-ish below.
Ay yi yi. Beauty like the frost kinda of make the cold worth it (??)

Wow! That frost is gorgeous! We don’t get that in our neck of the woods- the coldest I’ve seen in a long while is the forecast for next Tuesday with a low of 17 degrees. I will be surprised if that actually happens, but it could. We are spoiled rotten with our mild winters and green (even blooming) things in SW Mississippi. Then again, it’s been years since I’ve gotten to do any sledding…
