Wintertime Fun
Our driveway is slick, after the ice storm and several snow storms afterwards, it was pretty much a luge track. At one point, both of our cars were stuck at the bottom and Mr Chiots needed to get the filled gas cans in one of the cars. He rode a sled down and hauled the gas up on the sled. After using the gas to fill the plow truck, we were able to get the cars up the driveway. That gave him an idea though, use our 1/3 mile curvy driveway as a sledding hill – it’s PERFECT.
It sure makes for a long ride down with twists and turns which created a few spectacular crashes. The only problem is the LONG walk back up! Unfortunately we got a lot of rain yesterday that melted our sledding track, guess we’ll have to wait for more snow. At least we got a few good runs in while the conditions were great!
When was the last time you went sled riding?

What amazing photos, living where there is no snow -ever – these are amazing sights

This past weekend! We live on a hill side so all we have are sledding hills – ranging from “mighty might” to “black diamond”. We also a long driveway. It’s perfect for our runner sleds when conditions are right. The kids also love using old chicken feed bags!

I love the picture with the ducks! They must have thought it quite an event!
We’re lucky to have two hills within walking distance, we’ve gone three times already this year. I love it, and am not embarrassed to be the old, kid-less couple on the hill :)

Susy, Looks like Brian was having fun while hauling the fuel up the hill. As for me, January 1st was the last time I hit the school yard slope. I don’t actually slide down the hill any more. I would but as Brian says the climb back up the hill is the killer. It just isn’t in my old legs any more. So like with my 29 year old daughter when she was young, I’ll become the shuttle. The kids ride down the hill and I’ll shuttle them back up to the top in my truck. They seem to like it. However just as where you are the snow is disappearing with none in sight for awhile.
Have the best Winter day that you can.

I’ve done that on my road too probably 2 years ago. If you can’t have fun in the winter it will be a long one.

Your driveway looks like it would be perfect for a Jack Jumper. Have you heard of jack jumpers? They are a ski with a seat post and a seat on if. You sit on the seat and put your legs out in front of you and balance. They are a lot of fun. I grew up jack jumping on the hills around our house.

This is the perfect example of treasuring the fun moments while they last. Had he not gone out and had fun with the sled the opportunity would have disappeared. :) It looks like alot of fun. I love the ducks in the first photo.

The last time I went sledding was a very, very long time ago. We dont get a lot of snow in our yard, and when we do, it doesn’t usually stick around long enough. You have inspired me to take a trip to the mountain.
The photos of the snow and sunshine are beautiful. Brain looks like he has found his inner child, sledding down your luge track. And the barn, stunning. You can certainly celebrate all your hard painting work.

Mr. Chiots is so clever and handy, I wouldn’t be surprised if he rigged up a rope tow to get him back up to the top in short order. It does look like so much fun, and you two work so hard year round, it’s nice to see you let the little kid in you out to play.

Here in Central Europe (Czech Republic) we used to go sled riding every winter. But this winter we are only waiting for snow and ice. It seems much more like spring here. I hope the real winter will come soon so we can go outside to have such witer fun like you. Your driveway is perfect!!

Awesome–wish we got more snow here. The last time I went sledding was about three years ago. Two years ago we had snow, but I didn’t go sledding as I was 8 months pregnant with our second son; considering that I had him later that night, I’m thinking it was a good thing I didn’t give it a try–he came quickly enough as it was :)
Love all the poultry gathered around Brian in the first photo. Hope you get more sledding in throughout the winter!

Look at that snow! Snow is nothing but a dream here in our parts- especially with the heatwave we’ve been having! Fingers crossed we might get some mangoes though.

Man – that is one fancy looking sled! I still use my mom’s old runner sled that she broke her finger on when she was 10 years old. It is the BEST for icy roads! I was always more partial to the inflatable tubes though: i had some major crashes and sweet jumps on our steep as all get out driveway down in southern oregon. Love sledding!
